I just in process of buying a house which only has a small gas heater on the wall. Im planning on fitting gas central heating but not sure whether to get fitted in ceiling or floor. Any suggestions? Re: Central Heating- Floor or roof best and economical? 2Sep 30, 2008 7:04 pm Well if the house is built on a slab then there is no way you can have heating from the floor.
If the house has a slub floor (e.g. floor joists) then yes you can have the heating from the floor. In my sub floor (ground) i'm having my heating from the floor. On the first floor it's through the ceiling. I have lots of steel and made it difficult for the heating to go through the floor joists without creating bulkheads etc.... I think it's a matter of personal preference. After experiencing both, I personally I prefer it to be from the ground. Reasons are that hot air rises so from the ceiling vents the roof is quite warm but the floor is cooler. Also since I was a kid I LOVED sitting on the ducting vents. It made my tush nice and roasty on those cold days. Also if I had washed something and needed it dry I would just place it on the vent and it would be dry in no time. Re: Central Heating- Floor or roof best and economical? 3Sep 30, 2008 11:32 pm I prefer it from the floor - just because of the hot air rising theory - I kind of think that all the nice heat is way up with the ceiling when the ducts are in the ceiling, and you have to waste some to get it hot enough on the floor level too.
But we are having a slab so can only get it in the ceiling. Thanks for the info, the house we buying is on concrete stumps so i think ill go for in the floor ducts. when you have ducts,is it possible to totally block one of if need be and the heat will come more through the other ducts? i not planning to do in house i buying but house im in just now. we have a baby coming soon and there is a lot of heat seems to come through duct in baby room..i would like to totally block it of.
