Browse Forums General Discussion Re: Tile disaster in bathroom 4Apr 29, 2020 1:25 pm Mlben I’ve recently moved into a new home and I’ve noticed there’s a gap between the bathroom floor tiles and the vanity. It looks like whoever did the tiling misjudged where the vanity was going to sit. I really don’t like the look of it and want to get it fixed. I’ve attached a photo of the current work and was wondering the best (and quickest) way to fix this issue. I’ve taken a few more images but it’s difficult to see from the photos. It looks like they have tried to disguise the gap between the tiles and vanity with grey grout but it just looks unfinished to me. There’s a gap there so you don’t bang your toes on the vanity Re: Tile disaster in bathroom 9May 01, 2020 10:25 am That is poor setout from the tiler if the vanity was installed prior to tiling. The gap looks about 10mm between tile and kickboard and they have just filled it which looks horrible. The easiest way to fix now would be to place another kickboard face onto existing which will cover the gap and re seal with silicone Re: Tile disaster in bathroom 10May 01, 2020 12:58 pm IMO the only issue is the color of the silicone. It could have been adjusted by packing out the kicker, but if its a custom vanity it may have have that ability. A silicone caulk/seal is better in this area as it will seal against the kicker and stop moisture running under the kicker and swelling, but will also move with expansion and contraction. It is was grout, it will crack and be even worse visually. Agree with Splashers to glue another ply of the kicker on, or as I mentioned, pack out the kicker. Definitley use a better colour match silicone though Re: Tile disaster in bathroom 11May 01, 2020 5:06 pm if you haven't use silicone a lot before, a wide gap like this could be a disaster.. use a kickboard, it's a better way to do and looks better micwallpaper.com.au Picture your wall to a view Possibly both depending on the sizing.
