Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Apr 26, 2020 5:11 pm We have a small deck area to build.. 3m x 3m roughly. We don't want to put Merabu and need minimal / no maintenance if possible. We saw Modwood and EcoDeck.. What would you recommend? Or any other? We also saw Trex material but its quite expensive due to the linear meter cost and wastage due to our small area. Nearly $1200 more of an upgrade then Modwood.. Worth for such a small area? Thanks Re: Small Deck Area - What brand to use 2Apr 26, 2020 7:16 pm Trex is probably the Rolls Royce of decking, go with Modwood over Ecodeck any day of the week Re: Small Deck Area - What brand to use 3Apr 26, 2020 7:51 pm Doozer1905 Trex is probably the Rolls Royce of decking, go with Modwood over Ecodeck any day of the week Thanks.. so Modwood over Ecodeck.. Both had bad reviews online so wasn't sure Trex indeed is quite expensive but was wondering if its worth it for that small area or perhaps not? Re: Small Deck Area - What brand to use 4Apr 26, 2020 8:12 pm Modwood and ecodeck are not great products. They scratch very easily and I would never recommend. Trex or Timbertech would be my choices. They have a hard surface coating that gives it a far more scratch resistant surface. I'm guessing that you don't want joins in the deck and that's why the there is excess wastage? I'd still be going for the two premium options, in the long run you will not regret it. Honestly i have no idea how joins will look.. My builder suggested that we shouldn't have joins.. Should we do joins if it saves us money? looks bad? Yeah because of the small area we are in a conundrum if we should spend $2000-2500 on for a premium deck or go on Modwood / EcoDeck which will cost about $1500 for us on upgrades.. Have never looked into Timbertech but if its the same price point for the small area then question comes back to that. Re: Small Deck Area - What brand to use 6Apr 29, 2020 2:59 am There are a range of quality non timber boards you’ll find once you look into it some more. Another option to look into. https://nexgendecking.com.au I’d suggest getting a range of samples, scratch them up, soak them in water, leave them in the sun and see what you think. That will help you see the difference between products at different price points. Weighing up budget, longevity and maintenance costs/time is not a fun decision.
