Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Apr 08, 2020 11:41 pm Have recently completed a double brick, timber roof frame with Colorbond roof cover dwelling in Perth with a reputable builder. The engineering detail provided for the roof frame required a 70mm x 45mm MGP10 wall plate. Have recently noted on inspection of the roof frame that a Wesbeam E-Plate has been installed that measures 83mm x 28mm. After investigation I have discovered that Wesbeam no longer supply this product as the reputable builder no longer installs this product and the builder has gone back to using the standard 70 x 45. I am assuming there was/is an issue with this product and Wesbeam have not been able to provide certification that the product conforms to NCC/BCA. Are there any builders or roof carpenters that are familiar with this product and any comment on the fact that a different material has been used that was specified in the engineering detail. Did not consider the connections and wind loading. Cheers Re: Roof frame construction 5Apr 14, 2020 5:29 pm Doozer1905 What is that photo showing? That looks like it's in the roof structure not the top plate? The photo is showing the wall plate where it spans the fire place. I had easy access to take a photo as the fire place has not been installed. Generally the wall plate has been used everywhere else as per the attached photo. It is a pitching plate on a brick wall. But it will be up to the engineer to determine that. Registered Building - Always happy to help where I can and simply loves the game.
