Do project builders allow tradesmen you personally have hired to do things like tiles, carpets etc to do their work before handover? Or is each builder to their own?
TIA

TIA Re: Other trades 2Sep 29, 2008 4:47 pm a few project builders will but not many. I want to use the same person my builder uses for all his flooring but organise it myself. No go however.
Hmm actually i wonder how much it would cost to add the flooring in as a variation. Given i'm using a tradie the builder uses I mgiht be able to do it. Perhaps i might consider adding it once our slab is down. tempting. I've yet to get quotes. Re: Other trades 3Sep 29, 2008 5:10 pm Our builder has let us have the aircon installer who we are hiring ourselves into the house before handover and the aircon is all done now before handover and also the installers of roller shutters were allowed in and the plasterer changed an arch for us, something we decided on after plastering started, it was builders tradesman but they let us do a cash deal with him for the extra work on the weekend, outside the contract.
Our builder has been very accomodating with these things but I believe many are not. Re: Other trades 5Sep 29, 2008 5:34 pm we are allowed to get our own benchtops put in, am also going to ask to get our roller shutters done before handover I am pretty sure it won't be a problem for them. Like Helyn's our builder has been quite accommodating so far Re: Other trades 6Sep 29, 2008 5:54 pm Our builder has allowed us to deal directly with the kitchen company for stone benchtops & glass splashback at builders pricing.
We are to pay direct to the kitchen company for these. We are also dealing direct with the ducted air-con/heating supplier/installer and supplying our own kitchen appliances in lieu of builders standard range which the builder will have installed. Re: Other trades 7Sep 29, 2008 7:42 pm our builder allows us to supply the ixl fantastics but anything else they weren't keen on and warned us anything we wanted to supply wouldn't be insured and there was a definate no to allowing other trades in. Hmm i might have asked them already about our flooring. I'm not sure. Can't hurt to ask again I guess. Always get multiple quotes, no matter how reasonable/cheap you think it is.
