Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Sep 29, 2008 8:11 am How important is the facade of your house to you? Would you settle on a not as good floor plan because the facade is better?
Situation: Have found a really good floorplan of a house with a nice modern looking facade. But now a house that we used to like - plan not as good but we used to love it all the same - has now got a facade that is OH MY GOD we love. So what's more important to you? I'm very torn as up until two days ago we were set on our great house with it's nice modern facade but now that we've seen this other facade I'm at a loss..... I know that you spend more time inside than outside your house but....arrgghh! Advice experiences please?? Re: Facade - how important 2Sep 29, 2008 8:17 am Depended on how bad the floorplan was? How unappealing is it to you?
If you could learn to live with it, then I'd go with the facade. After 4 years - we're in! Re: Facade - how important 4Sep 29, 2008 8:40 am Is there no way you can change the good floor plan one to look similar or have similar elements or vice versa and mix up the floor plan on the good facade to suit more?
We are about to change a plan to look similar to another facade. I was sure this was one thing that with the right materials you could achieve a little of the same feel...windows in the same spots ......portico the same length or type of roof etc etc......have you asked the builder of the good floor plan if they have anything similar to the facade you like? Re: Facade - how important 5Sep 29, 2008 8:41 am The floor plan of the house with the better facade is great - we used to love it - it's just not as great as the one with the lesser facade.
We might be able to get the builder of the good plan to do the facade that we like but they are a project builder and they are already charging an arm and a leg as it is so they may not be as flexible or cost effective to change the facade. Re: Facade - how important 6Sep 29, 2008 8:52 am I think I'd have to go with the good floorplan and try to modify the facade to suit as best I could.
I think we are going to need pics of said facades and floorplans buildindreamhome, so we can properly help you assess Re: Facade - how important 7Sep 29, 2008 9:01 am donuts I think I'd have to go with the good floorplan and try to modify the facade to suit as best I could. I think we are going to need pics of said facades and floorplans buildindreamhome, so we can properly help you assess I am with Donuts on this and yes I would like to see pictures aswell......because I am a very visual person and pictures always help and I just love pictures....................Could I say pictures anymore??????? Re: Facade - how important 8Sep 29, 2008 9:08 am ok let me work out how to attach a pic and i'll be back! Re: Facade - how important 9Sep 29, 2008 9:22 am Go with the better floorplan..... facades can date and your taste may change a little over time... so the love for and importance of the facade may diminish. But a better floorplan that suits the way you live will always be of high priority.
Jo I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: Facade - how important 10Sep 29, 2008 9:34 am Re: Facade - how important 11Sep 29, 2008 9:34 am Are you building the house for yourself or your neighbours .
I think it's a "no brainer". You actually have to live in your house, and so the floorplan should be paramount. That said, the facade is important for resale. But as mentioned by others, if you plan on living in it for a while, no doubt facade trends would have changed by then anyway. Re: Facade - how important 12Sep 29, 2008 9:37 am Personally, I think the top facade is more timeless... the second one is very "now" and will probably date a lot more quickly....
So I say the top one..... with the floorplan you love! I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: Facade - how important 13Sep 29, 2008 9:39 am well done for posting facades I like them both actually! They don't look too dissimilar in main features that you would be unable to make one like the other, except as you mentioned the cost factor of getting it changed thru the project builder. Have you asked them? (the builder of the nicer floorplan?) Re: Facade - how important 14Sep 29, 2008 9:42 am I really think you could make the one you like look like the one you love and even if it was with colours and materials I think they have a similar feel....Is it the same builder? Re: Facade - how important 15Sep 29, 2008 9:51 am thanks Donuts...took me a while to work it out!
They aren't the same builder but I'm sure we could show them the other pic. I guess it would come down to dollars. As for the first one being timeless I would agree but part of me likes when you can really date architecture (I'm actually a huge Art Deco fan). Re: Facade - how important 16Sep 29, 2008 9:55 am I agree with gweluphome you could achieve a similar look with the light colours - I particularly llike the white garage a lot better than that black one. Maybe someone here could photoshop it for you if you ask nicely Re: Facade - how important 17Sep 29, 2008 10:42 am i say go with the house plan u love....u will be spending 99% of ur time inside, and not standing outside looking at ur facade....
plus, the facade of the house u love isnt too bad...i would just have less white and green hehe Re: Facade - how important 18Sep 29, 2008 11:37 am Thanks for all the replies everyone.... I think it has pretty much confirmed that the plan is a priority over facade - especially since they aren't too disimilar. You've all been a great help! Re: Facade - how important 19Sep 29, 2008 6:21 pm Hi buildingadreamhome
When I looked at both images the first one actually made me think of art deco. I know it's not an art deco house but it has a similar feel with the clean lines, the flat roof and I think the colours they have used are adding to that affect. I know it's missing the roundness that Art Deco also has but for me it just had that feel about it. So even though you may like the second facade better, you may just get a bit of that art deco with the first one, as well as that floor plan you really want. Good luck with all your choices. Re: Facade - how important 20Sep 30, 2008 10:03 am Go with the floor plan!
