Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Mar 06, 2020 11:21 pm I would give the builder a ZERO as we been dealing with the ceilings in my home being cracked and caved it from the storm on 9th feb 20. Out of 5 of the 6 houses built by Fairmont homes (on the same block Byrock Pl, Hinchinbrook) had the same problem with the storm on that Sunday, and we been contacting both Daniel and Tom (the directors of Fairmont homes) avoiding the reply to our problems. My home was built in 2015 and it should withstand the heavy rain water and the ceiling was caving in the garage. It was a newly built house from a turnkey home & land package. All the houses built on this block of land was bought brand new as well. Early on 2016, I experienced a problem with the rangehood where they did not build the ventilation outside of the property and the main door was being dragged onto the tiles as we use it. It took over 4 weeks for them to send someone out to fix the 2 problems. Now the directors are saying that they have the fair trading on their side and that the building warranty is for 24 months when it is built, but we have a major structural defect that covers for up to 6 years. They have been sending out letters and emails backing themselves up using statistics that the weather affected the damaged ceilings, instead of owning up that they are using poor building materials and poor construction work. Tom did told us that he would get someone to patch the damaged ceiling 2 weeks ago and he never did by avoiding the phone calls. Many of the neighbours that we know had experienced this same issues where the builders are avoiding to help us and rectifying this problem since 9/2/20. We now have to folk our own money to get a tradie to fix the damaged ceiling asap. My neighbours and I are going to seek justice from this slack builder. Re: Fairmont homes NSW built 2015 very poorly 2Jul 22, 2020 8:45 pm Hello, any response from Fairmont homes NSW? I was thinking to build with them after going to their display homes now I will think twice. ANy legal advise you received ? Re: Fairmont homes NSW built 2015 very poorly 3Jul 23, 2020 11:13 am Hi Robin, I have no time chasing Fairmont up as I moved to Newcastle but my neighbour was very persistent with the owner Tom and got his ceiling fixed. I think my neighbour did tell him he will take legal action if he doesn't get it fixed so he has to do it in the end for him. You just make sure u get a private inspector to assess your home before you release your final funds to them. Make sure there's no fault or defects with your build. I was told that over 100 houses built with Fairmont NSW has problems with them. Make sure you are careful with them! After reading reviews about building not sure which company to choose, most of them have a horrible review. Just start panic - who can build my house without headache. Any suggestions? Re: Fairmont homes NSW built 2015 very poorly 6Nov 06, 2020 4:44 pm hey ain't an easy one! Whoever you build with, make sure you get independent inspection done at each level for your peace of mind. Some builders will only allowed inspection at handover and it's too late to report some issues, like framing, roofing etc. Inspection might cost around 1500 to 2k but worth it just for peace of mind. Building your dream home tips & Advice Australia is anxamazig group Hi Robbin, have any suggestion how I can find groups in Facebook. Never use facebook before. I registered now. Hi Val, I think every home builder will have their own hiccups. Like we mentioned before best to get an inspector to assess the house when it is built before you release your funds to the builder. It was my first time building with Fairmont NSW as my first builder. I have lack to experience so now i know what is involved now prior to building a new home. They come across very unprofessional and they were trying to offer $700 to me to take my review down on product review site. It is not worth paying me that much as it cost more than double of that offered amount to fixed that ceiling. That's is how they get top reviews on the site. I had over 800 views on my review from product review site and now it is less than 5 views. They will bribe their way through to keep their reputation up for very little money that they offer and avoid helping you when you do find faults on your built home when you report to them. Good luck! Re: Fairmont homes NSW built 2015 very poorly 11Nov 08, 2020 12:50 pm Val G Hi, I'm in process of choose the building company and Fairmont was on my list under N1. Hi Val G Good luck with your build. Can I make a suggestion about picking the right builder. Make sure you get to actually speak to some of their past clients. Most builders who have happy clients should have no problem arranging for your to speak to 2 or 3 other clients. Every build has some issues, so what you really want to know is how well did that company resolve the issues and how easy were they to deal with. Also, my 2nd tip is to make sure you visit 1 or 2 of their homes under construction. If they are clean and tidy you know the company is organised, if they are dirty and messy, then you know that is how the company operates.
