Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Sep 28, 2008 9:52 pm Hi. I am looking at getting a new lounge and love love love the idea of leather btw am I wrong thinking this is easy to keep dust free?
A few people have mentioned Natuzzi and King. Just curious as to whether the general consensus is that the money is worth it...easily looking at >$5k for 2 seater, 3 seater and one armchair. Also looking for opinions on leather since I have always had fabric but am completely over vacuuming my lounge Any thoughts happily received! Re: Natuzzi & King Furniture - over rated? 2Sep 28, 2008 10:01 pm Hi _kelly_
We are looking into getting a leather couch too -- I also hate vacuuming my fabric one and like the idea of giving it a wipe over! I've only heard good things about King and Natuzzi ... will be interesting to hear what others say! Just don't go to Demir Leather in Auburn! (as per ahuang's thread...) Re: Natuzzi & King Furniture - over rated? 3Sep 29, 2008 2:58 am Have a look at Euro Sofa Direct in Moorabbin - they have a factory there with a showroom attached.
They custom made our over-sized couch for half the price that anyone else quoted and we are really happy with it! (Anyone would think I work for them the amount of plugging I'm doing for them on this forum ) After 2 false starts, a year living overseas, two more world trips and 3 years of uncertainty we are now starting the build process again - hopefully for real this time! Re: Natuzzi & King Furniture - over rated? 4Sep 29, 2008 2:05 pm donuts Just don't go to Demir Leather in Auburn! (as per ahuang's thread...) The whole leather thing has got me stumped too...analine? full grain ? Checking out King some time this week....will try not to fall over when they tell me how much Thanks for the other rec...way out of my way though so thiinking unlikely they'll want anything to do with me Re: Natuzzi & King Furniture - over rated? 5Sep 29, 2008 2:11 pm I've got a Natuzzi and a King. Natuzzi is amazing quality and comfort and King is great as well. That being said, I've also got an old crappy Moran sofa bed that is in the worst condition..... but I adore it!
I think with the amount you pay for Natuzzi, you have to view them as long term pieces (and select accordingly)... not as pieces that you will change and update with fashion. Natuzzi is simply divine and beautiful and will give a lot of pleasure.. Jo I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: Natuzzi & King Furniture - over rated? 6Oct 01, 2008 12:16 pm I also own a Natuzzi and had it for 3 years. Still in excellent condition. We got a two seater and three seater with end recliners. One of the recliners was a bit squeaky. All it took was a call to Natuzzi and they had a service chap out to fix it up in no time. Overall good experience and good sofa's! Only niggle we had to wait 3 months for the sofa to be shipped over from Italy. Re: Natuzzi & King Furniture - over rated? 7Oct 01, 2008 12:29 pm We bought a black leather 2 seater and 3 seater three years ago for $2200 on sale. They have both copped constant wear including people sleeping on them, spilt drinks and chip crumbs from (grown up) boys eating while playing on the playstation.... and they still look brand new
I just use a bit of leather conditioner on them every 6 months or so and give them a wipe down each week to keep off dust, etc. We intially bought them to cut down on dust etc as family members have allergies but the leather is fantastic for stain resistance. Re: Natuzzi & King Furniture - over rated? 9Oct 01, 2008 1:07 pm No, I'm in WA so we don't have either of those stores here that I know of. We bought ours from a local store... we were browsing and the couches were on the shop floor... and in our lounge room by that afternoon Re: Natuzzi & King Furniture - over rated? 10Dec 01, 2009 1:06 pm We purchased a Natuzzi sofa and when it was delivered one large seat cushion had more than a dozen dark scars in the form of marks and lines. Naturally none of the show room models had anything like this visible and we were not advised that this sort of serious and visible scarring was likely or even possible before our purchase. Natuzzi informed us that in Australia and in Italy their organisation considers these "as acceptable natural scars and are within the standards required for this leather finish, hence nothing can be done." BE VERY CAREFUL WHEN BUYING NATUZZI! Re: Natuzzi & King Furniture - over rated? 11Dec 01, 2009 6:27 pm Hi, I am new to the forum but my wife and I purchased a leather lounge from Culturehome after looking at many furniture stores including King Furniture. They are owned by Natuzzi but are far more affordable (although still not cheap). They offer excellent comfort, the leather comes from Italy and is then shipped to China where it is applied to the lounge frame. They're on the web and are worth checking out if you are still shopping around. Re: Natuzzi & King Furniture - over rated? 12Dec 02, 2009 12:24 am We bought a Natuzzi and thought we were fortunate that they had a certain colour in stock thereby avoiding the long wait. Sooo comfortable but every time it was humid there was a smell. After sales service was atrocious from both the store and Natuzzi and finally after googling to try to find what the problem might be we became concerned and made the choice to throw it out. I later heard that not all Natuzzi is made in Italy and when I checked they confirmed this is the case. I love the style and comfort but I would not deal with Natuzzi again. Re: Natuzzi & King Furniture - over rated? 13Dec 02, 2009 7:20 am I've had King Delta for two years now and it's completely fine. It's 'suede' though. Little marks come off beautifully with a wet cloth. Natuzzi is probably a bit expensive in Australia - you have to consider you're paying for an overseas product whereas King is Australian, I'm pretty sure. I like both because of their designs (also their furniture), many cheaper local shops are a bit too traditional looking for me. Re: Natuzzi & King Furniture - over rated? 14Dec 02, 2009 10:45 am If you have young kids I think your only option if you want to keep your couches in any presentable condition is leather. I haven't had fabric couches for any length of time so I can't comment about the difference in dust but it's so easy to stain fabric compared to leather, which is almost impossible (unless you have white couches I imagine). Has anyone had any experience with those 'direct import' couches sold often on eBay? From what I understand only the front/seat sides are leather and the rest is pleather or whatever. Re: Natuzzi & King Furniture - over rated? 15Dec 02, 2009 12:30 pm I love the furniture at these stores, absolutely gorgeous! I'll be getting some for sure. I guess I dont think they are over rated but I may once I purchase them lol.. DA approved Waiting on a few more Builder's quotes. Ive never had a problem with fabric sofas and kids. in fact, with my first child we had a cheap Super Amart sofa set and it still los the same as when we bought it (3+ years ago). Its been through chocolate, vegemite, mashed vegies, puke, poo, textas, crayons. You name it, its come off. As I understand it if a leather sofa turns out to be surprisingly affordable you should be asking detailed questions. Vinyl backs and reconstituted leather that isn't as hardwearing as the genuine article is the type of thing I've heard to watch out for. Funny how things have changed. Leather used to be the luxury item you bought only after the kids were old enough to treat it with respect and most of us managed with fabric. One of my relatives splurged on a leather sofa and she had to keep it out of direct sunlight and rub moisturiser into it every few months. Her next sofa, albeit many years later, was fabric. Some people who have significant health issues with dust find leather worthwhile though. Re: Natuzzi & King Furniture - over rated? 18Dec 03, 2009 4:28 pm If I had the budget Id go King Furniture for sure. Australian made etc. However we dont have the budget.. and also have a puppy lol So ill wait till we have the cash and a nice well behaved, house trained dog before we upgrade any of our furniture! My OH's mum is a devoted Moran lover. She has 3 Moran lounge suites in the one house One of which they have had for over 20 years and it still looks fabulous. Its suffered through 2 boys... plus 2 x massive dogs (Turner and Hooch dogs= massive + lots of slobber!) and its still great. She bought one suite recently from ebay for $1500 !! Its a hideous pattern but OH SO COMFY! and it looks brand new.. still has the tags on it! I see King Furniture on ebay every now and again.. so its worth just keeping an eye on ebay as well. Re: Natuzzi & King Furniture - over rated? 19Dec 03, 2009 6:53 pm Honestly, we change our furniture so often, whats the point spending ridiculous amounts of money. I've got fantastic furniture lounges from 10 years ago going strong in one living area, and modern furniture in the other going for 5. Why pay 5k for a lounge if the 2k lounge looks the same and does the job. In 10 years youre going to upgrade either way..... I've never understood it. Fair enough if they were designed to last 30 years, but it's just trends! It's designed to be redundent. My mum and dad had the same lounge suite the whole time I was growing up. Then a leather Moran for the last 20 years. I don't upgrade my stuff until it is worn out. I have one sofa I payed quite a bit of money for... I will never update it. I will get rid of it when it is worn out, and I will be devastated. I love it to bits. I don't think the amounts for these type of items are ridiculous when you never want to part with them and you can get 20 or 30 years. I have one Natuzzi and one King lounge. One Moran sofa and one Divans sofa that was the first "new" piece of furniture I ever bought. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself.
