Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jan 31, 2020 12:30 pm We just want to do a tiny bit of tiling. The shower stall and vanity table sink surround is all. Never done any before in my life. Already discovered it's expensive stuff, this tile, isn't it? Well the question is can I save money by buying such as Bunnings products for the glue or whatever you call it, the sticky stuff and then the grout and whatever else... or is it true what this saleslady told me that only her expensive best quality stuff is worth using? That's the question. But any further hints and wrinkles are welcome. It's my first attempt, our first attempt. Re: How To Start A Little Bit of Tiling - What Materials? 2Jan 31, 2020 6:37 pm I assume you are doing a reno? Are you lifting the old tiles or tiling over the top? We've tiled ourselves, if you look at my thread 'Renovating a 70s Monstrosity' you'll see some of our work. I think we just bought our glue and grout from Bunnings, hubby is out at the moment, so I'll double check with him. In your shower do you have a tray or tiled floor? You need to be able to remove old tiles and grout, and size new tiles (if necessary), and then glue and grout those. Pre-mixed adhesive and grout is more expensive, but best if you are only doing a small amount - otherwise you need to be able to mix your own, which can be a bit of a chore. You'll also need a tile trowel and spacers of some sort, although matchsticks would do. Most important part is to think through the job and make sure orientation, tiles lines and cuts (if any) are planned, as these little things can ruin the look of a tiling job.
