Thanks and regards, Shi This does make sense as the water on a bidet it to 'Clean' you so it should be technically treated water. Even though your not washing your hands in it. That is why it is such an interesting question as it puts bidets in between two conflicting regulations. In reality, a closed eye is probably given to a bidet (toilet) also using mains water even though the 6 Star standard decrees otherwise. There are afterall many bidets in use. Unfortunately, Yarra Valley Water do not specifically reference the regulations they quoted but it does appear that they are in EPA Guidelines or the Health Act. Out of interest, I will check the Health Act and the EPA Guidelines when I get time tonight but note that Guidelines are not legislated. 3in1 Supadiverta. Re: Electric Toilet- prerequisites/considerations for new bu 11Jan 03, 2020 2:28 pm I just had an unsuccessful quick look. https://www2.health.vic.gov.au/public-health/water/alternative-water-supplies/class-a-recycled-reclaimed-water The above states: Note: The objectives described in Guidelines for environmental management: use of reclaimed water no longer apply in Victoria. Instead, a ‘fit-for-purpose’ approach outlined in the Australian guidelines for water recycling is used for assessment. So I clicked the link which went to: http://www.recycledwater.com.au/index.php?id=16 And the page shows the following.....
Clicking all those brings up ERROR 403. Clicking on Victoria in the menu brings up... Recycled Water Guidelines-Victoria http://www.recycledwater.com.au/index.php?id=27 And clicking on the links brings up Error 404. GRRR! And similar results when looking elsewhere. Guidelines are most often but not always based on legislated regulations but I have drawn a blank here. I might shoot the VBA an Email. Anyway, just show the builder the Yarra Water text, they would be highly unlikely to think through it or the 6 Star Standard. If the bidet was included in the contract, the plumbing should be included in the plans. Running a mains branch at rough in is easy enough to change over. 3in1 Supadiverta. My contract is already signed, but I overlooked things and missed to include additonal water outlet in the toilets for bidet. Very late the thought about recycle water and using it at bidet came into my mind. So now I would need to request for variation ($500 fee) and then additional cost to have water point. They charged $293 for "providing 1No. cold water point to fridge space including cistern stop for future connection by owner". So I assume it would be of similar pricing for additional water point to toilet if they agree to have. This forum gives lot of confidence that the help is just on the corner Re: Electric Toilet- prerequisites/considerations for new bu 19Jan 19, 2020 9:00 pm From what I've read, Melbourne's recycled water can have elevated TDS (Total Dissolved Solids). Electronic bidets contain a water heater, small pump, small solenoid valves, small water passages and servo controlled telescopic nozzles. All of these are susceptible to scaling and should not be used where water has high TDS. Doing so will reward you with premature issues of your units. If mains water is plumbed to the toilets' vicinity but only connected to the bidets, mains water consumption should be very low. I own an iZen IB-7500 and measured it's water use to be between 50 and 200ml per use depending on the selected pressure and how long you need it to operate. At worst 25 uses will be equivalent to one flush. I for one think they are totally worth it, in paper saving, comfort and cleanliness. Just activate power saving if it has it so it doesn't burn power while you're not using it and be wary of what a heated seat can chew up in power if it's too high or not necessary. This is separate to the issue of potential bacteria in recycled water. Recycled water is generally not a problem (bacteria wise) cold out of the tap. It is potentially an issue when the few remaining bacteria are left to multiply at elevated temperatures as found in the bidets water tank, hence the guidelines advice. This forum gives lot of confidence that the help is just on the corner Hi Shi, Could you share what did you ended up doing? I am building in Melbourne west and in the same dilemma since I am on verge of signing my building contract. My builder has denied the request for giving fresh water supply to toilets and is even reluctant to add a fresh water tap close to toilets (which can be used in future to install bidets) saying developer might not approve it and even if they do just adding a tap there will cost upwards of 3k since it will include water proofing the wall and what not (even though washbasin vanity is present in the same bathroom).
