Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Dec 15, 2019 6:21 pm Hello, I hope some one can help me understand the following a bit better. I have heard a reflux valve and a non return valve have the same purpose (to prevent back flow episodes). I have seen an installed reflux valve. It has a removable grate at the surface level so you can inspect its operation. Where is a non return valve installed? Is it completely underground or installed internally to the building or installed in the same manner as a reflux valve? Thanks all. Re: Plumbing query 2Dec 15, 2019 10:09 pm As far as I know a reflux valve is installed on the main sewer line to prevent sewerage from the main line pushing back into your house, as you have mentioned. Back flow devices are placed on hoses and hand held showers (basically anything that can be put into some water reservoir eg bucket or bath) and is designed to prevent water being sucked back into the water mains. One device protects your house. The other protects scheme water quality. I'm not a plumber but have seen both and have installed backflow fittings.
