Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Nov 22, 2019 11:55 am Has anyone got a small WIR in their plan (i.e. for a 2nd bedroom)? I am making some changes to the overall internals of my design (based on a project builder's plan), and in doing so I want to reduce the size of a WIR to Bed 4 (to allow room for other things), however, I am wondering if this has gone too small? It's 2260mm x 980mm. See snippet from plan attached. The width is plenty, but the depth (980mm) may be an issue? Does anyone have any ideas about the dimensions, and any ideas how this WIR could be fitted with cabinetry to make good use of this space? And also, what type of door, or no door at all? The extra 380 won’t be much extra in terms of storage space, and better utilised to make the room more spacious. Referring to the depth dimensions of 980mm, if I was to increase the depth of the WIR, what would you say the minimum depth required to make it worth while? Re: Small WIR design - ideas for cabinetry fit out 4Nov 25, 2019 12:39 pm We have a similar size WIR's (1900x1000) with no door in our minor bedrooms. I considered changing this to a standard robe as I wasn't convinced about the no door. However the price the builder wanted to change them was ridiculous and unjustifiable. In practice they work quite well and certainly hold more than a standard robe that width would have. We just left them as the standard builder fit out, 2x hanging rail front to back ie the 1000 dimension, and a 3rd shorted rail between 2 panels on the back wall, with a single shelf above. Then we added a set of ikea shelves under one of the side hanging rails. Essentially leaving us with 2 hanging rails and one side shelves. There are a couple on page 59 of my thread, link below. Re: Small WIR design - ideas for cabinetry fit out 7Nov 25, 2019 1:17 pm Link below? I can't see a link below? Re: Small WIR design - ideas for cabinetry fit out 8Nov 25, 2019 1:27 pm I've also messaged you some pics showing them in use by messy teenagers. Ours are tucked around the corner out of line of sight from the bedroom entrance so the no door doesn't bother me like I thought it might. In my signature, if you're on tapatalk, maybe its not visible from there? I'll see if I can figure out how to message you a link. Re: Small WIR design - ideas for cabinetry fit out 10Nov 25, 2019 1:40 pm Bank, how high is the top shelf to the small WIR? Re: Small WIR design - ideas for cabinetry fit out 11Nov 25, 2019 1:46 pm indo26slate Bank, how high is the top shelf to the small WIR? About 2m. We have 2700 ceilings. This gives room for double short hanging below, which we have in parts of the master WIR. It's not a practical height for everyday use but we just use it for storing stuff that isn't used often and use the lower shelves for clothes. Re: Small WIR design - ideas for cabinetry fit out 12Nov 25, 2019 6:28 pm To make it functional as a walk in robe it should be a minimum of 1350 deep. Otherwise you're better off going down to a 600 deep standard robe and using the floor space elsewhere. Hi Simeon, Just a question, as you have been super helpful.
