Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Oct 19, 2019 10:20 pm Hello All, We are about to move into our new first double story home. never had to worry about vacuuming stairs, what do people use? I see these stick vacs everywhere and wonder if that would be easier than a standard vac with a head and hose? we didn't get a ducted system. Re: Question regarding vacuum for stairs 3Oct 20, 2019 1:22 am What are your stairs made of? If the have no carpet, then any stick vacuum for a spot clean plus a wipe will be fine. If they're carpet, then I'd suggest a stronger clean, and that means a corded vacuum cleaner. Sticks like Dyson are fine for small spot cleaning but they're never as strong as a corded one like a Henry. Plus, with a stick vacuum, you have to carry the whole machine around in one hand with you, and than can get tiring. I absolutely disagree with this. I have two Dyson barrel vacuum cleaners and one V10 stick cleaner. The V10 blows the other two away in terms of performance and convenience...just not length of vacuuming time. ben888 ...like a Henry. Plus, with a stick vacuum, you have to carry the whole machine around in one hand with you, and than can get tiring. I’d never heard of a Henry before reading this post, so perhaps it has a very long hose which would give it an advantage in this circumstance. I previously lived in a three story house with carpeted stairs. The Dyson barrel was a pain because the short hose length meant that the entire heavy unit had to be taken up and down and perched precariously on the stairs at cleaning time. This was in the days before we owned a stick vacuum cleaner. Re: Question regarding vacuum for stairs 5Oct 20, 2019 7:53 am ben888 What are your stairs made of? We have a Dyson stick v10 the pet version, its great but i do find it a bit heavy on my hand to use as I don’t have full use on my hand. I didn’t consider a normal vac with a longer hose. That makes sense actually. Leaving the unit at the bottom of the stairs and then just carrying the hose/head unit up as i vac sounds good. I think I'm showing my British roots here. Henry cleaners are very popular in the UK, although you can even get them from Godfreys over here. They have very good suction, are very reliable, and have a very long cord length, and a long hose too. And whilst they look like the cutest cleaner ever, pretty much every professional cleaning business in the UK uses them. In fact, I see on Godfrey's website here, it is listed as a commercial vacuum cleaner - and about twice the price you'd pay in the UK!!!
