Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Sep 23, 2008 9:55 pm I know all the ladies, and many gents, love their walk in robes..... but how important are they? Is a WIR, or lack of one, a deal breaker when buying or building? Would no WIR actually stop you from buying a particular house?
We deleted a WIR to put a spa in the ensuite and the built in that backs on to the spa..... we have two banks of robes with mirrors at the entry of the master..... as standard there was one bank and the WIR. This is the master bedroom plan now..... the spa is where the WIR was.... http://i519.photobucket.com/albums/u353/joles_photo/scan0001-5.jpg As a buyer, would this put you off our house? Or would you overlook not having a WIR? Very, very interested in everyone's opinion...... This is the full house plan....... Thanks, Jo http://i519.photobucket.com/albums/u353/joles_photo/scan0001.jpg I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. as much as i love love love wir's...ur plans have a spa bath in the ensuite! that isn't something u see often, so u could prob get past the fact that there is no WIR having said that, ur having 2 rows on robes, so that should be sufficient for clothes lovers like myself... Ur like my fiance, who is thinking about resale value even before we have had a chance to live in the house! hehehhehe Re: Would you buy this house without a WIR? 3Sep 23, 2008 10:03 pm Looks like the main bedroom is too small not to have it.
I'd rather have the clothes space over the spa. Besides - with the view out the back at your place, put the spa outside - when that pipe from the goulburn river goes in Steve Re: Would you buy this house without a WIR? 4Sep 23, 2008 10:05 pm Steve there is clothes space.... it's just built in now rather than walk in..... all up there is 4.6 metres of hanging space. I'm not sure what you mean by too small not to have a WIR??
I will not have a spa outside!!!! We're surrounded by the horse trail.... I don't do public bathers!!! I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: Would you buy this house without a WIR? 5Sep 23, 2008 10:10 pm So there is - missed it.
go with the spa. But I bet you rarely use it - which is the typically issue with spa baths once the novelty has worn off. I'd rather spend the money on a weekend away at a resort with a spa bath than stay at home and use one Steve Re: Would you buy this house without a WIR? 6Sep 23, 2008 10:14 pm Steve, how much do you want to bet about the spa???
I make an effort now to have a bath once a week.... put a hair treatment in.... put on a face mask.... some oils in the bath.... loofah my whole body... the 'Finger on the stereo.... no interruptions... bliss... my time Now if I do all that with only a bath.... what do you reckon will happen with the spa?? The novelty will not wear off!! I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: Would you buy this house without a WIR? 8Sep 23, 2008 10:22 pm The presence of a spa would put me off much more than the lack of a WIR.
But neither is a deal breaker. Do the hard jobs first. The easy jobs will take care of themselves. - Dale Carnegie Re: Would you buy this house without a WIR? 9Sep 23, 2008 10:29 pm Is the robe 1 rail and shelf in all or do you have some cupboards inside.
Could you make the cupboard on the dining side a slight bit deeper that way your coathangers are not rubbing against the wall and then it may appear to be more spacious inside I would cope with that over a walk in. I am not a hoarder of clothes and when 1 thing is bought 1 goes so this setup would suit me fine and its the overall feel of the room and ensuite that would be on my mind. You do have alot of storage space otherwise for suitcases and that sort of stuff some people store in their WIR. So in short it wouldn't effect resale for me. You have made up for it by having the spa bath anyway. Re: Would you buy this house without a WIR? 10Sep 23, 2008 10:32 pm I like it!
Personally I would like both but I think the spa is an important part of a good ensuite. I think the space you have designated to hanging is fine! Between the side drawers and a nice dresser you will have more than enough storage and a nice spa to relax in too Re: Would you buy this house without a WIR? 11Sep 23, 2008 10:37 pm oh joles, you know me.
i love big WIRs... that's my first 'must-have'... and because i'm familiar with the Grandview floorplan... and fell in love with the idea of WIR and BIR in the master bed... and i'm not a fan of Spa... then... you know my answer... but that's me.. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Built the Nevada 42 Next project - landscaping! Re: Would you buy this house without a WIR? 12Sep 23, 2008 10:38 pm Gweluphome,
In each one, where it says robe it is shelf and rod, the big cross next to that is double rod and shelf up the top and the small cross next to that is 4 drawers and four shelves above. So both sides are fully fitted out. You're right, with all the other storage, it is only clothes that would need to be in the wardrobe.. Jo Just off topic (who me?)..... Terrence Malick Re: Would you buy this house without a WIR? 13Sep 23, 2008 10:46 pm i would go for the spa bath... i love bathing.. Blog - http://clageonewhouse.blogspot.com/ Building Thread - viewtopic.php?f=31&t=10886&hilit=milan I am in, with my husband and my beautiful bunny Re: Would you buy this house without a WIR? 14Sep 23, 2008 10:54 pm On first glance - I would say yes it would put me off buying it. I would do a search for properties with 2 bathrooms and a WIR and probably immediately discount those without.
However, if a LOT of other things about the property were very attractive to me, I would go and have a look, and if the cupboards were set up nicely (ie not just shelf and rail) I might be convinced. The big bath is more attractive than the spa jets to me. Jo - can I ask why are you thinking about this? Re: Would you buy this house without a WIR? 15Sep 23, 2008 10:56 pm Re: Would you buy this house without a WIR? 16Sep 23, 2008 10:59 pm joles Just off topic (who me?)..... Parliament is on the news and DS said... "Look mum, nerds fighting!" If your going off topic you know I will go too. I love that your DS thinks our pollies are better known as nerds. It is a good description for them. It sounds like you have the robes sorted out. I have had a WIR, sliding Robe and a 4 door robe. I have coped with each one differently and I have not bought a house based soley on this alone. Everything ends up having different merit and where a robe may seem important to a buyer the spa might be more important to that same buyer. Remember it only takes 1 person to buy your house and they have to like more than your robe size. I just go on and on and on don't I. Sorry. Re: Would you buy this house without a WIR? 18Sep 23, 2008 11:13 pm Matt..... noooooo then I can't see the TV from the spa.... and I'm still hopeful of eventually having someone to share the double shower with...
sirgoat... seperate toilet is a MUST Donuts... just a matter of interest thing.... I'm finding it really interesting. No drama. Not planning on changing anything... just interested in how people see things. One thing I'm finding interesting is that we have an enormous amount of storage throughout the house.... big wardrobes and four linen presses. Lots of houses of similar sizes have WIR and BIR in minor bedrooms but not much other storage apart from one linen press. I've actually calculated the hanging space and shelves of similar sized houses with a WIR and we literally have metres more storage.... but not that little selling point "WIR to master".... I think cabinfever has referred to it as "spin" before. I guess that's what's interesting... that people don't notice masses of usable storage because one element in the storage jigsaw isn't there.... I'm not criticising that, I understand it.... there's selling points that are "must haves" for me. I wanted to know whether what we've done will put off buyers, but also a bit of an experiment. I'm a frustrated sociologist.... Jo I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. I think a frustrated nerd is emerging and although you have calculated metres I am guessing another nerd on here would step in and tell you exactly how many metres, from his storage measurement calculator .
