Browse Forums General Discussion Re: Would you buy this house without a WIR? 21Sep 24, 2008 10:10 am I currently have a BIR which takes an entire wall of my bedroom, in my new house I will have a WIR, the overall storage space of both is probably about the same clothes-wise but, as someone said, the deep top shelves will store suitcases and such.
The main reason I look forward to haveing a WIR is the ability to find clothes, shoes etc without turning on main bedroom light - this might sound a silly thing to other people but DH and I both work shift work and are often getting up or sleeping at different times, it is a pain in the butt when one of us wants to sleep in or is asleep during the day, room is dark and the other one turns on the light to find things in the wardrobe. With a WIR, with its own door and own light this will not be a problem. Re spa's, whilst I enjoy them in romantic getaways, I know I would not use it on a regular basis at home and I would not be interested in a bathroom with a spa. In fact, for me, haveing a spa at home may well detract from the special-ness of the spa suites of romantic week-ends. So, my personal choice: WIR easily wins over spa. But for re-sale value I think they even out - as long as you have enough BIR space, that is probably fine by most people and many would like the spa. Seriously, the way the robes are positioned... they have their own light on a seperate switch from the bedroom light. I'm not planning on changing anything..... just interested in what people think. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. We are getting a spa in our new house and I look forward to many romantic nights in there sipping champers with candles aburnin'...SO, as I say that, and think about it, I would GO FOR THE SPA !!!!!!! Clothes are happy anywhere Re: Would you buy this house without a WIR? 25Sep 24, 2008 1:03 pm joles Just off topic (who me?)..... Parliament is on the news and DS said... "Look mum, nerds fighting!" No, no no .... except there was one I found vaguely attractive.... Mike if he has a good memory, knows the answer to this and will remain silent.. Terrence Malick Re: Would you buy this house without a WIR? 27Sep 24, 2008 6:15 pm Yes, Joles, I can see that the position of your BIR's at the front of the room like that with their own light switch would minimise my issue, both because there is a separate light and becuase you do not have to walk into main part of room, therefore no disruption to anyone sleeping in the bed.
As I said though, my issue is unlikely to be a common one so not relevant from a re-sale point of view. As you can see from other replies there are many people who would prefer the spa. Just not me. SuH, enjoy those many romantic nights; perhaps DH and I are just too old to do this regularly , special occasions only Re: Would you buy this house without a WIR? 28Sep 24, 2008 6:45 pm Helyn As you can see from other replies there are many people who would prefer the spa. SuH, enjoy those many romantic nights; perhaps DH and I are just too old to do this regularly , special occasions only We must be getting too old for regular "spa" dips........me thinks I say too much ........special occasions only like weekends away Sorry I voted for the WIR. Built the Eden Brae Cambridge 34 Family with Boston Corner Facade Re: Would you buy this house without a WIR? 29Sep 24, 2008 7:06 pm I love all the storage and it wouldn't bother me at all. But I'd still be aiming for an outdoor spa though not perhaps at your place unless I could find a way to make it a bit more private. ( horse trails and all) Mind you we ARE ( fingers crossed) having an outdoor spa on the street side of our house eventually. It will be hidden from view purely because it will be much higher than the street level and behind enough of a fence to hide it from the street. Re: Would you buy this house without a WIR? 30Sep 24, 2008 7:16 pm I don't think the lack of a WIR will hurt resale. I would have preferred two sets of robes to our relatively small WIR, but just didn't work with the floorplan.
A BIR with good fitout can be a much better selling point than a WIR with just a rail and shelf. Anyway, everyone needs a spa in the ensuite so you have somewhere to fill a bucket when cleaning Re: Would you buy this house without a WIR? 31Sep 26, 2008 2:35 pm Personally, I would prefer the WIR over the spa.. as most people have pointed out – you probably would get over the spa pretty quickly. A WIR provides convenience for storage and that is always valuable and appealing to the larger demographic.
This analogy is similar to a house with a swimming pool, surveys show that a larger percentage of home owners prefer to have a standard backyard and not have a pool.
