Just wondering if anyone came across firm sofas that could help the bad back. The major furniture retailers have them quite squishy and looks like thats the norm. I am in Melbourne. Would like to share ideas with others in the same situation. cheers. vpande Re: sofas for people with back problems 2Sep 24, 2008 1:08 pm Try the Stressless line by Ekornes. It's made in Norway; check the website for your local dealer. We have two of the sofas and one of the recliners. Great lumbar support. Bit expensive, but what's new? If you have a very bad back problem, you could try ringing the Independent Living Centre and asking for their advice. (They have a website too). If it is a less severe problem, you could shop around until you find what is comfortable but if you can't find anything, try to buy the firmest couch possible, then adjust your position using firm cushions. You should aim to be sitting with your feet flat on the floor and your knees and hips at approximately 90 degrees. Let me know if you want any more specific information. Allison Re: sofas for people with back problems 4Sep 24, 2008 7:23 pm I also have back issues on some lounges. I find low ones particulary bad, & no number of cushions helps.
I also find some seem to have my head in a position that is forward of my shoulders (ie curves my back too much) which irritates my neck. Maybe speak to your physio/chiro if you have one, they may be able to suggest back friendly ones.
