Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Sep 25, 2019 5:50 pm Hi l have a colourbond steel roof , my house is ten years old, my question is if l clean my gutters with a high pressure washer hose and spray heaps of high pressure water into the gutters almost flooding them is there a risk water can get behind the top of the gutters and underneath the roof into the ceiling casuing damage or is the way houses are built that would not be possible Re: cleaning gutters water damage risk 2Sep 25, 2019 7:33 pm The only way that you could flood your gutters with a high pressure nozzle is to have the gutters fully clogged up with gunk to start with. Logic dictates that one would clean the gutter(s) of all debris before doing a high pressure clean. 3in1 Supadiverta. Rainwater Harvesting Best Practice using syphonic drainage. Re: cleaning gutters water damage risk 4Sep 26, 2019 12:37 am I use the twist type of screw nozzle on my hose and water does splash back over the fascia and wet the eaves at times but this isn't a proper pressure hose set up that uses less water. If the house is eaveless, it would be possible for spray to deflect to the ceiling area (unless there was a flashing which some houses do have) but a lot of gutter cleaning businesses use pressure sprays and they don't seem to have a problem. Surface deflection characteristics are certainly a lot different for a pressure spray when compared to a hose. Have you figured out how you are going to direct a pressure spray inside a gutter because they usually have a reasonably long wand? I have a Karcher and I have never been tempted to try to use it to clean the inside of the gutters. 3in1 Supadiverta. Rainwater Harvesting Best Practice using syphonic drainage. Re: cleaning gutters water damage risk 5Sep 26, 2019 10:08 am The other thing to check is whilst your roof may be Colorbond it doesn't necessarily follow that your gutters are. Some builders will install gal gutters and paint them even with a Colorbond roof. Careful of the pressure cleaner on a possibly painted surface. Re: cleaning gutters water damage risk 6Sep 27, 2019 10:34 am If your house is a standard hip construction with eaves then because of the rafter pitch the fascia and gutter are geometrically lower than your internal ceilings, so it won't flood. Your eave lining will be cement sheet which can get wet without damage.
