Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Dec 04, 2010 4:39 pm Hi, I am wanting to install a contemporary gas or electric fireplace ... however, here is the catch, I want to install one that is free standing under a window, where the window is approx 1m off the ground. The wall it will be sitting against is an external wall. Firstly is this even possible or legal ... having a fireplace below a window. The fireplace does not have to create too much heat, it is more for the ambiance. My 2nd question, if this is possible, where can I find this style of fireplace, I've done a search and the contemporary ones I've seen are all built into the wall. Any suggestions? Re: Contemporary fireplace 2Dec 05, 2010 8:16 pm Hi there, have you seen the self standing archer gas log fires. They are Australian made and have zero clearance which means you can install them almost anywhere. We have an in-built and they really do heat up an open area, almost to the level you won't need any other heating. Their website is http://www.auroraclimatesystems.com.au/colours.php Re: Contemporary fireplace 3Dec 05, 2010 8:30 pm Thanks for that radiuz. The freee standing ones are very close to what I want and the closest thing to what I am searching for to date, so thank you very much. I'm wanting something more contemporary and modern in design, like a long rectangular one with a polished steel front. I will continue looking, but now I know search for keywords like 'free standing'. Re: Contemporary fireplace 5Dec 06, 2010 3:16 pm Double post! They do not need a flue or chimney, canbe installed in drywall (plasterboard) and do not require a firebox. They are much cheaper, about $900 compared to $4000+ for gas. They require no gas or electrical supply as they are fuelled by a small resivior of spirits. No fumes or odours I believe. Biggest down side is that they produce no real heat - just ambience. Could be what your after - maybe see if you can see on burning as they give off a different flame to conventional open or gas fires. http://www.blackandstone.com.au/vioflame_home.html?gclid=CMqNm5L21qUCFQH5bgodMUH_kw http://www.ambienceecofires.com.au/FAQ-pg12089.html - STUNNING!!!!!!! http://www.ecosmartfire.com/fireplace-images/2759/poolside-setting-sydney - Gorgeous but expensive! There's the VRTKL. Lopi make some, though not as contemporary. Also Rinnai. Hi all, My first post, we are building a house and can’t decide the layout of the lounge room. We have a large N/W facing window and are wanting to have a wood slow… 0 13724 No the fireplace doesn’t work. It’s been enclosed. I’m not sure what was removed, as it was done quite some time ago - well before what I can see with photos online… 2 11584 I would probably render it and then paint it as per your other advice, or gyrpock over the top. 1 3339 |
