Do I need to worry about any cyclone impact or sea level rise, flood, etc? Re: Coastal Home Insurance 2Aug 27, 2019 5:51 pm You need to read the policy very carefully but I can tell you that natural calamities such as seal level rise or actions of the sea and tsunamis are excluded in most of the policies, in fact all I know If you live in the bush you have fire risk, if in alpine area, avalanche risk and if close to the sea, the sea risk. It's your risk. I am on the beach and low and no policy I know will insure me against sea risk. Before I bought my cottage many tried to tell me about sea level change but its my choice to live in the moment. The beach has been there 10 thousand years and will likely be there in another ten thousand and certainly beyond my lifetime. So if your spot is worth it, take the risk and live in the moment. Mine is. Do I need to worry about any cyclone impact or sea level rise, flood, etc? That is a very long coastline with a variety of more intensive future risks in different regions. North of Brisbane, risks include an increasing frequency of stronger cyclones gradually making landfall further and further south as oceans become warmer, atmospheric moisture levels increase and the South Polar - Equator pressure gradient decreases. On 20 February 2015, Cat 5 cyclone Marcia made landfall at Shoalwater Bay, 70 km NNW of Yeppoon and tracked overland all the way to West of Bundaberg before weakening to a tropical depression, a mere 300 km from Brisbane. As the tropical depression continued to track south, Brisbane and surrounds did not escape flooding. One thing certain is that insurance costs will continue to rise.
