Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Aug 25, 2019 12:53 pm Hi everyone, What are everyone's thoughts on the size of our walk in robe and en suite? Size of WIR - L- 4m x W 2.4m Size of Ensuire - L 4m x W 2.01m Is the width of the WIR big enough? we are about to progress to working drawings and just want to be absolutely sure before i give the go ahead. Makes a difference if it’s one person getting dressed at a time or two? Our current width betweeen shelves is 90cm, fine for one person but a bit squashy if a second person is trying to get past! Re: Walk in Robe size - Opinions please 3Aug 25, 2019 4:58 pm It depends on what you're having in your WIR... For example, hanging space with doors would be 60cm deep. Hanging space without doors, which is very common in a WIR, can be only 50cm deep If you're just having shelving on one side, for say shoes and other small items, then 40cm deep is plenty. So work out how your want your joinery arranged, and then add 1 to 1.2m in the middle and you'll get your minimum width. But if you have space for a 2.4m wide WIR, then be reassured that will be fine. My build with Inspired/ Como Homes: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=93656 Re: Walk in Robe size - Opinions please 7Aug 26, 2019 1:05 am the size is fine, but I would personally be worried about the door to the ensuite. I know a lot of people seem to like doing it, but I feel like it will get too damp and then my clothes might get moldy. The other thing is with the toilet in the open right next to where your toothbrush, hairbrush etc are likely to be, that's not a good idea because every time you flush there will be a lot of particles in the air from your toilet. Re: Walk in Robe size - Opinions please 10Aug 27, 2019 12:48 pm We love having the entry to the ensuite via the walk in robe. It means that you can close the door to the WIR and have a shower and get dressed without disturbing your partner. We had that in our last house for 20 years, so did the same in the new one. It's brilliant. We had a door in between the 2 rooms which is still good if someone is in the bathroom and you want to access the WIR. Re: Walk in Robe size - Opinions please 12Aug 27, 2019 3:23 pm Hi, We are yet to have handover of our current build, but with all the cabinetry etc now installed we think our setup will work fairly well. Originally our plan had the ensuite entry via the bedroom but what concerned me was that door would be right next to the bed head area. Anyhow we chopped/changed on this design, but we think the pro's outweigh the con's for us. It gives more separation of the ensuite from the bedroom, also allows you to shower then dress in the robe more easily without disturbing someone else in the bedroom etc. We decided to not 'door off' the WIR itself as we didn't think we would honestly close it all that often anyhow. To assist with reducing condensation into WIR area, we made sure the ensuite door was only standard height (2040mm) and also we have a decent extraction fan and will make sure we leave it on for a while after showering. The size I think you have @2.4m width should be fine, as ours seems fine also at slightly less width than this.
