Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Aug 18, 2019 2:48 pm I purchased a double story display home from metricon and moved in 2015 in Melbourne, When ever there are high winds we can hear cracking sounds in one room only, it started 2 years back with high winds of 60+ KM, which i think is ok, because this is not every day, but with the passage of time now with 25+KM wind speed I can hear this crackling sound which is very annoying and cant sleep. In Melbourne this wind speed is quite normal. Initially i though it would be due to solar panels i have on the roof, so called solar company and they said every thing is fine as they do inspection after installation, However I insisted an inspection and paid them extra money to get it checked from a 3rd party and they found few issues with the panels which they fixed, but the sound was still there, 3rd party inspected again on windy day and told me this noise looks like an issue of the truss I should call metricon and and gave their recommendation in writing. Metricon warranty guy came up to have a look at it, that day their was no wind, he went into the roof and said every thing is ok. I told him to check the noise you need to visit when there is wind speed of approx 30KM, he agreed to come on a windy day, and since then i am chasing them but they are not responding. Its been more than a year. Sent them lot of emails but no response. Can some one advise what should i do here. Re: Crackling sounds Roof 3Aug 18, 2019 6:40 pm arcadelt If you have records of all the correspondence, raise a case with the office of fair trading in your state. You have warranty, so they should make a reasonable attempt to address the issue. Thanks, I will raise the issue with VCAT, should you advise to send an email to Metricon one more time that if they are not going to address the issue in 2-3 days, i am raising the case. That is a function of Engineering Start by contacting your local shire building department and get a copy of the Engineering, Soil and WIND Classification Report. Re: Crackling sounds Roof 8Aug 19, 2019 1:48 pm Hi Kfm The Council building department should have certified engineering plans make sure they are the most current. Unfortunately builders have a habit of making changes during the build and not updating the plans. See if you can identify the problem before hand, take photos, record the sound, ask questions here, be prepared Building Surveyor and Engineer inspections aren't free... get quotes.. the more you can do, the better it is for you.
