Hi, I've been reading this forum for a while now and have finally decided to register. Lots of good advice on this forum and unfortunately some sad stories. Hopefully these are the exception, but as many have pointed out (especially burned), it is a bit of pot luck with little recourse for people building.
My partner and I are looking at building our home in the inner west of Melbourne in the next 12 months. We haven't decided on a builder as yet, and it seems this is going to be the most difficult task. We'll probably set aside 6 months just for this. We love period homes, in particular Victorian and Federation and will suit our area well. We are looking at some smaller builders and are even considering Harkaway Homes but being kit based makes it a little less attractive as it means alot of work on our part. Especially given the shortage of tradies.
That is the story so far and we'll try share our experiences with you all.
Cheers !!
