I had my concrete done for part of our backyard and both sides. I have told the concrete guy to make sure the concrete is under the weeping hole in case of heavy rain. I have today noticed some part is level to the weeping hole, has anyone had any flood issue? I am planning to use silicon to cover the weeping hole just the bottom part(under 1cm). Feed back pls? Re: New concrete; weeping hole level??? 2Sep 21, 2008 10:27 pm Do you have a photo to show us?
With limited information provided, I assume you mean: 1) House already completed 2) this is extra work in the backyard which partly joins to the house 3) the weep holes are in the brick walls of the house If this is the case, not an expert in this, but based on my previous experience, heard that council requires (yours might be different) certain clearance for the weep holes. When we did our alfresco and paving, our landscaper was on site with the concrete pouring to make sure the concrete finished at the correct level with none of the weep holes blocked. No sure if you arranged this yourself or through your landscaper/builder. Have a chat with them and express your concern. Might even want to double check with the council for requirements. See if they can get it fixed asap. Don't know how are they going to do it, but better get it fixed now then getting into trouble when council/certifier comes to check the work. Hope this helps and good luck! Re: New concrete; weeping hole level??? 3Sep 22, 2008 10:35 am I would not be blocking up the weepholes at all.Whatever about council requirements, I would be worried if the weedholes are blocked, even partially so, this means water will not be able to escape from your cavity which is the whole point of having cavity wall construction.
I would hate to think that water is sitting in the bottom of my cavity wall with nowhere to go, because eventually it will find somewhere to go, and usually where you really dont want it to go...possibly back into your house, Or it will sit there in the bottom of your cavity, stagnate, become a lovely breeding ground for mosquitoes, bacteria, maybe even a small dose of legionnaires disease. Re: New concrete; weeping hole level??? 4Sep 23, 2008 10:04 pm i will try to take some pics, none of the weep holes are blocked. Just concerned that the new concrete is leveled with some of the weep holes rather than under. Good point, I didnt think about water not being able to flow back out even if partially covered. Is your concrete leveled or under the weep holes? Re: New concrete; weeping hole level??? 5Sep 24, 2008 9:12 am Ive got timber floors, so I dont have this problem. But I do make sure that all the ventilation grills are not obstructed. Lots of air circulation is essential to stop wet rot.
When I draw cavity construction houses the concrete path/yard levels are usually one course of bricks below the weepholes as a minimum. Pat. can’t tell from the photo, a tie down rod will be 12mm, is it a steel beam? he should be able to work it out 1 4470 Thanks for your advice. So far i have not noticed any issues with doors and windows. Builder advised they will organise drainers to inspect 2 weeks ago but no further… 7 18828 |
