Browse Forums General Discussion Re: Building at th back side of a street 2Jul 12, 2019 12:18 am what's the area around it like and the orientation? Also what's the boundary going to be like between the plots? I don't personally have experience living on a battleaxe block, but one of my friends does. He says it was all wonderful when the front neighbour is wonderful, then at one point the front property was put up for rent and the renters were not great people and caused issues e.g. putting their bins on his driveway, throwing trash on their property etc. Edit: also utilities connections might be more expensive. They have to run the pipes/cables all the way down the driveway. Re: Building at th back side of a street 3Jul 14, 2019 6:33 pm Separate driveways for each property alleviates public liability insurance for the driveway. I’ve lived in one at front that shared a driveway. Loved it. You do need neighbors open to some communication and respect when sharing driveways. With higher density cities most lots and homes are getting smaller. You can have problems with any neighbors. Re: Building at th back side of a street 4Jul 14, 2019 9:21 pm

Re: Building at th back side of a street 6Jul 15, 2019 3:41 am This kind of block provides you with great levels of privacy as well as luxury of having 2 yards (to the either side of your building), which means you have much more of actual useable space than any of your neighbours. E.g. I have similar layout of the block (but with shared private road rather than driveway) and I have converted what is usually a front yard into a full scale entertaining yard with pool, patio and BBQ area while still enjoying a full size backyard with garden and patio at the back of the house. You wouldn't be able to get same with normal street facing block, this layout automatically adds 100-150 sqm to my block. My land is 260m2 (10m x 26m) located in claymore NSW.
