In ideal world as per Chris if I was owner builder I would have the same firm do all the engineering. My builder had geotechnical report by a company, drainage design completed by one engineering firm and the structural design by another although both firms have civil and structural engineers. I do hope Chris is right and national registration makes a difference to the quality and consistency of soil reports. Re: Engineering query 5Jul 14, 2019 6:01 pm Hi, thanks for the reply, however they haven't based there report on any other soil report, and they based there design on the original / only soil report and that report is specified in the slab drawings, but when they signed the 1507 they added that note. Re: Engineering query 6Jul 14, 2019 9:15 pm It seems like a legal disclaimer over what is called "third party reliance". Basically the soil report is not their work but they have had to base their designs on it; it's their way of stating they are not legally responsible if you supplied them with incorrect information. It also limits them from being required to update the soil report if changes become necessary. Don't worry though, no one can contract out negligence. If something goes wrong based on something they should have "reasonably" known, they are still liable. Assuming you've modelled the TB8, TB10, TB12, TB2 & J1 joists/LVLs there, it appears as per drawing to me. There maybe should be an additional J1 between TB10 and T12 if… 3 31850 Thanks for all replies. I just noticed now the pictures I added to post right on top of page were wrong.
