Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jun 30, 2019 1:33 pm Hi everyone can you please help me with the following questions with our bathroom renovation - in removing all the tiles from our existing bathroom renovation all of the render behind the tiles came off the brickwork also - do you think it is necessary to re-render all the brickwork in the shower and bathroom before waterproofing and re-tiling? Or would you use a waterproof plasterboard instead and then waterproof on top of that? Second question is - we have to replace windows in the bathroom, so would we render/plasterboard before or after the new windows are installed? Thank you for your help. Re: Bathroom renovation 2Jul 01, 2019 3:22 pm I'd really think about getting some professional advice. It might cost a bit to have someone come in - but might save money and time. Re: Bathroom renovation 3Jul 01, 2019 3:38 pm We have a tiler to do the tiling but he doesn't render or plasterboard. The tiler said to call him when ready for tiling. Everyone tells me something different so hoping to find out the correct process etc. on this chat before proceeding. Re: Bathroom renovation 4Aug 04, 2020 2:41 pm Hey Tazw, Always do the modifications first prior to finishing the walls so go ahead and do the window first in case of damages to walls. This includes if you need to change any electrical or plumbing works in walls. If you want to use sheeting on the walls you will still need to remove the render that is loose and you will need to batten the wall prior to sheeting to make sure they are true and plumb (More work, More Money) I would just remove all loose and drummy render and hire a cement renderer to redo the walls, best to get experienced tradie as this is the main substrate you are tiling on top of.
