Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jun 23, 2019 7:02 pm I’m building a new single storey house with a reputed builder and opted to do the flooring outside. We selected a 600*600 porcelain tiles for common areas and carpet for the bedroom. The flooring company suggested to do screeding for tiles which would increase the difference of the carpeted area by 10mm , for which he suggested to do screeding to the carpeted areas as well After finalising the final quote , he suddenly ch aged to plywood in the carpeted areas instead of screeding 1. Is screeding necessary for the tiled areas 2. Does plywood cause any sound or issues in future due to usage of heavy furnitures in the bedrooms 3. Is it true that carpets cannot be installed on the screeded floor , was it a trick to save some money 4. Is there any way we can save some dollars as this involves increasing the door and skirting heights Re: Match tile and carpet height difference 2Jun 24, 2019 8:16 am Hi santafe welcome to the forum 1. We use concrete suspended slabs systems here in WA, you can't hear furniture moving in rooms above 3. No that is false, carpets are installed on underlay over concrete floors in 2 above 4.That is the issue with following trades, they all (Trades) make excuses as to why their methods are better, quicker or cheaper unfortunately the following trades may not agree so they slug you more in remedial/repair costs Porcelain tiles are best laid on concrete floors with screeds as you will notice uneven concrete slabs of +/- 10mm tolerances Always check the concretors work-> Tilers-> 2nd Fixers...make them all responsible Here you might want to check this guide NSW Guide to Standards and Tolerances Unfortunately, It's not the way I check Level/Square/Plumb Floors, walls and Ceilings for Tolerances as there are more effective tools and methods available...It is advisable to check HTH Designer,Engineer (Civil,Const & Envir),Builder,Concrete & Masonry Contract.Struct Repairs Re: Match tile and carpet height difference 3Jun 24, 2019 11:09 am santafe I’m building a new single storey house with a reputed builder and opted to do the flooring outside.
