Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jun 02, 2019 10:20 pm Hi, We recently installed a new Kitchen and used white silicone between the stone bench top and tiled walled. This has discoloured and gone a yellowish colour in patches after a few weeks. Can anyone suggest what could have caused this? I cannot remember the brand of silicone but it was from a building supplies store and which they recommended would last in a kitchen (didn't want to buy shellys in Bunnings as people don't seem to rate it, wishing I had now). It is patchy, some areas are bright white others are very yellow. I cannot think of anything we have put on it that would have discoloured it. No tumeric etc. It has actually appeared on both sides of the kitchen in so seems unlikely to be something spilled on it. I am planning to redo it with another brand but wondering if anyone knew what would have caused it? I don't want it to happen again. I have tried a mild bleach solution and baking soda but it has not changed, leads me to believe it is the product itself, not a stain. Photo below, left hand edge is white and then it gets yellow towards the right (much more evident in real life than in the photo) Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Also whats the best way to remove the existing silicone? Is this a good product or a waste of time? https://www.bunnings.com.au/selleys-...mover_p1232412 Thanks Re: Kitchen Silicone discoloured after a few weeks 3Jun 07, 2019 9:56 pm eddyj443 Hi, We recently installed a new Kitchen and used white silicone between the stone bench top and tiled walled. Re: Kitchen Silicone discoloured after a few weeks 4Jun 10, 2019 3:23 am I would not use the Selleys product, it may cause damage to your benchtop. Just buy a plastic removal tool like this https://www.bunnings.com.au/cornertape-standard-silicon-remover_p1660553 stay away from metal ones as it may scratch. Use this tool & a razor blade to remove silicone. hmmm id assume youll get hit with the "natural product therefore variation in colour etc" excuse. How bad are we talking?
