Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Sep 23, 2019 2:51 pm Hey guys, I was wanting some advice with my floating shelfs. I’m built all my shelfs, and I’m ready to attach them to the wall but I am unsure what type of wall I have. I took a power socket off and it seems like wood, but quite thin? If so; how’s the best way to attach it (I have attached photos of the brackets and wall) Thank you in advance for your help! I wanted to try to keep the shelves not connected for two reasons. 1. I think it will look nicer but more importantly, 2. Because I made them all, not all the shelves are perfectly the same. So if I connected them, it will look a bit off. My worry was would the wall hold the shelves if I didn’t connect them to the studs? Because the wall looks like timber, I was just going to use wood screws, and I don’t think I need wall accord or so? Any help is much appreciated! Cheers, N Re: Advice on Floating shelfs 4Sep 24, 2019 8:02 pm Depends on how much weight you are expecting each shelf to hold. If you're planning on putting something heavy on it, I'd definitely try to find the studs and anchor them into that. If it's only light, then what looks like structural plywood in your wall should be definitely strong enough to hold the shelf. I'd pre-drill the hole to minimize splitting, and use a decent wood screw. I'd also use grab adhesive or silicone and go the whole way around your hexagon with it for extra support. I made them out of pine so quite light. And I’m only putting small things in them - photo frames, small plants, and things like that. So hopefully that is light enough and holds up fine! Thanks Simon, I guess I'm no concerned with the volume of the noise rather that dead and hollow sound and feel that is associated with floating floors. But I'm not sure… 3 6115 Thanks, that's the motivation I needed to give it a try sooner rather than one day! 4 2993 Versaloc is a mortarless besser block system that still needs a properly engineered footing.
