Browse Forums General Discussion 1 May 09, 2019 8:56 pm We are hunting for our next property. We are wanting a bit more land and a bit bigger house. We currently live on a residential block. We have 2 options that have come up. Just need opinions with what everyone thinks is better. Which would you choose and why. Opinion 1 Established House More expensive option Less then 12 month old house. Big house on 6 acres (heavily treed). No landscaping. Just house on land with shed. Option 2 1 acre block (cleared) and building a new house. House won't be as big as option 1 but I'm still very happy with the size. When estimating cost works about 150k price difference between each options. This is a estimate as it depends what price is agreed on. Stamp duty has been included in estimates. Location is VIC. Re: Which would you buy? 2May 10, 2019 8:32 am Very hard to say as really not enough detail, but new homes always end up costing more than your initial price, could end up 80-90 lower only,I would also consider future selling price, area, land size, more saleable home, which home suits you better and most importantly, don't be house poor as too high a repayment can destroy your relationship, good luck. Re: Which would you buy? 3May 10, 2019 6:44 pm I suppose it comes down to how many acres you want. 1acre isn’t all that big but you’re getting new and can set it up how you prefer. There’s no doubt that the 6 acres sounds good especially since the house is less than a year old. But it really depends on the dollar difference.
