Browse Forums General Discussion 1 May 08, 2019 4:23 pm Hi everyone, I'm a novice so seeking help from knowledgeable people. I'm building house at the moment, we had selected a render colour for the facade and the builder has stuffed up the colour and applied a different colour. Now after seeking what they will do to fix they are saying, they will apply a shield coat with the right colour. Now I'm not sure what shield coat means and if it is an appropriate thing to do in this case. Appreciate your help with this. Thanks everyone! Re: Question about incorrect render colour 4May 08, 2019 7:37 pm Depends on what kind of render you are in. The best renders available are silicone/silicate ones, which are breathable, waterproof and top coat has already colour in it, so no need to paint. A bit on an expensive side. Then come acrylic renders which are not breathable and not as durable as silicone, but can also contain paint in them. Cheap cement renders, on the other side, need to be painted. Virtually every render is likely to chip out and develop some sort of cracks eventually, but quality silicone renders will outlast the others (many have 25 years+ warranties). Re: Question about incorrect render colour 5May 08, 2019 8:10 pm Thanks very much alexp79, We have gone for a builders basic render. So I'm guessing it will not be a silicone one that you have mentioned. When you say cement renders need to be painted, how often do you reckon they will need to be painted? Is it the same with acrylic renders? Thank you, I'm learning so much about this now. Wish I had learnt a lot sooner. Re: Question about incorrect render colour 6May 08, 2019 8:19 pm Acrylic renders differ between each other, some of them can be tinted to the colour of your paint, so you will still require one coat of paint on top, but only one coat, while others can have colour pre-mixed, so no painting will be needed. Cement renders have relatively short life span and will likely require patching up and re-painting in around 10 years time. You also can apply silicone silicate top coat (paint) to your cement render and this will significantly increase lifespan and durability. Re: Question about incorrect render colour 9May 09, 2019 6:23 pm I have now received confirmation from builder that they will be applying the dulux acratex 955 arcasheild matt to fix the issue, I don't know if that's a good thing or not so seeking confirmation from builder at the moment. Constant What you have posted isn't really readable and also needs to be compared to your architectural plans. Happy to have a look if you email me at 1 8080 Hi Alex, Thanks for the reply again. I had a chat with the builder, he said he will use primer, then hydrotec which comes with colour and sealer as well. A Renderer I… 12 18013 |
