Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Apr 28, 2019 10:00 am Hi All, About a month ago we repaired a hairline crack that seemed to be getting worse over time in the ceiling. We clean the crack then taped it, then two coats of Gyprock joint compound. The job came up well but a month later the crack has started to appear again through the tape and compound. This tells me that something else is going on here. I have been up into the ceiling to investigate the problem but can't see anything major up there. Something is causing this and if I don't find out what's causing it I fear the ceiling might cave in. Any help here would be great. Thanks. Re: Cracked Ceiling 2May 03, 2019 3:21 pm Could it be something off-set - ie out of alignment that connects to the ceiling in some way. Or maybe a wood piece in the roof that is warped or warping. Could make the gyprock "move". Is it near an A/c unit ? Re: Cracked Ceiling 3May 04, 2019 12:35 pm The most likely cause is the ground movement, either slab edge subsidence or slab centre heave causing tension in the ceiling and cracking plaster. Would it keep happening though BE ? Surely the movement would be felt if it was continual ? The crack ran on the right side of the house from the dining/living through the theatre and study. We got it fixed and the study/theatre was fine but the dining area came back after a month. It was repaired again and we moved in. Six weeks later the crack was back. The frame company inspected the roof and put in extra blocks, screws etc, the gyprock was tested and the slab was checked but nothing came back. This issue went on for about six months. The national manager flew down and agreed to have it repaired again but we didn’t want it just repaired and the overall issued shoved to the side. Two years later and still no answer. I hope you figure it out as it drives us crazy everyday.
