Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Apr 05, 2019 9:09 am I have lived in my Jandson home for just over 1.5 years and commenced landscaping the front area by planting some hedges. Whilst planting a hedge approximately half a meter from the water meter, I unexpectedly struck the poly water pipe supplying my home. The poly water pipe coming out of the meter was literally just below ground level as seen in the picture below. I was careful as I expected a water line to be underground in this area and I was shocked to strike a water pipe just upon inserting the hand shovel to open up the ground. The damaged section was cut out and replaced by plumber I engaged to complete the repairs. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ I am out of the 6-month warranty period thus engaged a plumber to repair the damage as I needed a water supply as the incident occurred Friday evening. I was advised by the licensed plumber that the installation is not to standard as it does not meet the minimum depth requirements of 300mm as per Australian Standard AS3500.5. I requested the plumber to only repair the damage section so I could have a water supply over the weekend for my family which will allow me to take up the matter with Jandson first working day. Note the landscaping was completed by Jandson so the ground level is unchanged. All I have done is remove the grass and install garden edging to create a garden bed area. I informed Jandson on the first working day and it has taken Jandson a week to respond on the matter. Jandson have stated that they will not take any accountability or ownership as I have engaged a third party to complete the emergency repairs. I am really frustrated as based on the time it has taken for Jandson to just respond to this matter I would have been without a water supply for over a week if I had engaged them to complete the emergency repairs. Jandson Homes have informed: 1. They will not rectify the installation even though it breaches the Australian Building Code & Standard as I have engaged a 3rd party to complete emergency repairs. Ridiculous considering, I have waited over a week just for a response and would have been without water for this entire time and longer to schedule the work 2. Rectify the installation bringing it up to code 3. Compensation payment to cover the emergency repair works. I am really disappointed that Jandson Homes a builder that states they have over 30 years in the industry treats its customers so poorly, are negligent and unprofessional in such matters where you would expect a builder with these credentials to shine above others. Based on my experience they have been in the game for 30 years instead because they survive by building non-compliant installations at the lowest cost using questionable contractors. I am looking for advice from others in this group that have had similar situations with their homes builders and the outcome. I have informed Jandson that I will be taking this matter to the Fair Trading and they appear not to care. As a minimum I would have expected Jandson would be required by law to rectify a non compliant installation that was insatlled by their contractor. Jandson are stating that because I engaged a 3rd party they cannot do anything which is ridiculous considering the emergency repairs was cutting out the damaged section and replacing. I am expected now to resolve this matter and bring it up to code out of my own pocket. Apologies for the long post but I am really frustrated and seeking assistance. I believe this is correct.
