Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Oct 06, 2007 1:17 pm Hey guys, we were looking at the Brivis Contour series for our new house, (had it in our past 2 houses- great unit) but we've just been told about the Brivis Ice series (refridgerated). There were no real issues with the contour system, except it struggled on really really hot days and on humid days, i remember once laying all our towels on the timber floor and still going flying for a six on the floor!
The Ice series runs through the same ducts as your brivis heating unit and uses the fan in the heater to distribute the air. They can be retrofitted to brivis heating units as long as the ductwork is the larger size to accomodate the cooling aspect. There is still an external unit, similar to the standard split systems, but it runs through your ducts. We will be building soon in Berwick, single storey, 10 points (for ducted system), 250m2 in house, Htg unit is HE30i (being installed by builder "H') Has anyone looked at one of these units? If so, what are your thoughts on them? Would love to know if anyone is getting one or already has an Ice series cooler installed ? Re: ANYONE HEARD/GETTING THIS - BRIVIS ICE SERIES COOLING? 2Oct 06, 2007 5:01 pm We are getting the Brivis refridgerated unit also!!
I will let you know how it is when we are in... How many points and which outdoor unit are you getting? Is Carlisle installing it for you are you getting a 3rd party to do it? Did it cost much extra to increase the size of your ductwork?
Very interested to know as we have only just heard about it today, and have no real idea on costs... Thanks Re: ANYONE HEARD/GETTING THIS - BRIVIS ICE SERIES COOLING? 4Oct 06, 2007 8:21 pm no probs! We also upgraded our wall batts from R1.5 to R2.0 for an extra $408. Note: The original cost for this unit was $9470 with 13 points and three phase. Thanks Re: ANYONE HEARD/GETTING THIS - BRIVIS ICE SERIES COOLING? 7Oct 07, 2007 10:07 am Hi Matt, i'll try posting again, but i dono't know why it is not let me????
Comes up with a protocol error?? I am assuming that this system is being installed by the builder? Can i also confirm that the $12, 154 is for: ME35i to 15 points with larger ductwork 2 network controllers 2 motors (is this 2 external units, or 2 internal coil units that attach onto the ductwork?) 3 phase power & isolation (is 3 phase a std requirement of such a system or just because you are getting 2 motors?) If you got all of this for $12K then if we already have the HE30i unit being supplied by the builder, then i would say it should cost us about $7-8K possibly???? Sorry to be a pain, but really like this system and happy that someone on the forum is getting one so that i can ask questions. Also need to catch up to chat about theatre/home network cabling/ media streamer etc as we picked up our working drawings on Friday. Contract mtg is next Wednesday, so after that.... Thanks again. Re: ANYONE HEARD/GETTING THIS - BRIVIS ICE SERIES COOLING? 8Oct 07, 2007 9:09 pm **Phoenix** I am assuming that this system is being installed by the builder? You assume correctly ... much easier to install it now than later for me. **Phoenix** Can i also confirm that the $12, 154 is for: ME35i to 15 points with larger ductwork It is! **Phoenix** 2 network controllers 1 Network and 1 slave controller. not sure about what type the slave is. **Phoenix** 2 motors (is this 2 external units, or 2 internal coil units that attach onto the ductwork?) Heater is internal (ceiling) and the air con is external. (at least the big noisy compressor is) ... 70decibels! my neighbours will hate me! The condenser is in the ceiling next to the heater. **Phoenix** 3 phase power & isolation (is 3 phase a std requirement of such a system or just because you are getting 2 motors?) 3 Phase is required for this unit. i think every "whole house" refrigerated system is 3 phase. **Phoenix** If you got all of this for $12K then if we already have the HE30i unit being supplied by the builder, then i would say it should cost us about $7-8K possibly???? That would be a fair assumption i think **Phoenix** Also need to catch up to chat about theatre/home network cabling/ media streamer etc as we picked up our working drawings on Friday. Contract mtg is next Wednesday, so after that.... No problems! Ours is the 15kw aircon and he30i heating through PD for $7900. Let me know if you want any more info - I think your specs sound closer to Matt's though Built Porter Davis "Dromana" 2007. Re: ANYONE HEARD/GETTING THIS - BRIVIS ICE SERIES COOLING? 11Oct 08, 2007 4:54 pm Hi Vanderlay, $7900 is pretty good, is that including the extra large ductwork and 3 phase power or are you using single phase power. Need to make a decision this week so under the pump to choose, but no pricing is available as yet.. Hard to quote on a house that is not built yet....
Just spoke to one installer today who said we can get away with single phase electricity if we want to run 2 zones , living areas during the day and bedrooms at night. Not sure if that is what we want as i think that i would like the whole house to be cool if possible. Vanderlay we are building a single storey like you. How many points are you getting? Love to get more info on what you were quoted - I am not sure what area you are building in to ask the same contractor to quote. We are building with Berwick with "H". PM me if you don't want to put the info on this thread. Thanks Re: ANYONE HEARD/GETTING THIS - BRIVIS ICE SERIES COOLING? 12Oct 08, 2007 5:12 pm **Phoenix** Hi Vanderlay, $7900 is pretty good, is that including the extra large ductwork and 3 phase power or are you using single phase power. We have 10 points (4 in Bedrooms/2 in Rumpus/4 in open kitchen/lounge/dining/family) So we think covered pretty well except for bathrooms which can be shut off. Not sure who the contractor was that did it as it was organised through PD. Built Porter Davis "Dromana" 2007. Re: ANYONE HEARD/GETTING THIS - BRIVIS ICE SERIES COOLING? 13Oct 08, 2007 7:46 pm Just added all points up and der.... realised i can't add , we have 12 points not 10, ( 4 bedrooms, 1 study, 1 kitchen, 1 living, 1 rumpus/theatre, 1 bathroom, 1 ensuite, 2 family/dining area)
I was advised that to upgrade the ductwork it should be around $80 per duct then the cost of 3 phase power. 2 questions then: 1). Does anyone know how much it would cost to get 3 phase power for air con on a single storey? 2). Can 3 phase be installed after handover, or does it have to be done when the initial wiring is going in???? If anyone knows anyone who can get me a quote, please let me know. cooling 14Oct 08, 2007 7:47 pm hi phoenix executive heating and cooling in hallam do the heating and cooling for PD. ( their in the yellow pages) i got a quote for evaporitive cooling $4,375 through them. the brivis ice cooling sounds better might ask them how much they would charge. Re: ANYONE HEARD/GETTING THIS - BRIVIS ICE SERIES COOLING? 15Oct 08, 2007 7:55 pm Thanks Clath, i'll call them tomorrow and see how we go.
Much appreciated. Re: ANYONE HEARD/GETTING THIS - BRIVIS ICE SERIES COOLING? 16Dec 20, 2007 1:46 pm Well we've made our decision, well i did and hubby had to agree
we ARE getting our Brivis ICE system to 12 points.... It's more than what V paid but slightly less than Matt's. But Matt said it works beautifully in his 43 sq place, so i'm sure it will be fine for our 36 sq's..... Bit of negotiating required, but overall happy with the result..... or at least we will be when the hot weather comes in (after we get the house of course!!!!!!!!!!!!) Re: ANYONE HEARD/GETTING THIS - BRIVIS ICE SERIES COOLING? 18Dec 20, 2007 1:57 pm Thanks V, i tell you what, we came so close to taking the evap option....more than double the price for the ICE system $$$$ - and i don't want to know about running costs either...
But i sweet talked my way into getting it , so all is great now.... I have been told that i won't regret it...... i hope not!!! On that first stinking hot day...when you walk into your COOL house, you'll say "AHHHHHH, so glad we got the ICE!" Built Porter Davis "Dromana" 2007. Re: ANYONE HEARD/GETTING THIS - BRIVIS ICE SERIES COOLING? 20Dec 20, 2007 2:11 pm Sad thing is, we will be moving in during the colder months, so i don't think we'll be able to crank it up anytime soon after moving in....
