Browse Forums General Discussion Re: Evapourative cooling in Brisbane 41Dec 13, 2009 9:05 am Just to make some things clear, percentage humitdity is not the concern, its the dew point. Up north the dew point can be as high as 30 degrees. Which means your evaporative will not be able to go lower than this. Re: Evapourative cooling in Brisbane 42Dec 13, 2009 8:08 pm This is the best way of describing the effect.
Dew point is the temperature at which the relative humidity becomes 100% i.e. the air becomes fully saturated with water. However, all the expressions are inter-related: see: Psychrometrics These charts are a helpful way of working out conditioning needs. Psychometrics and climate Sometimes just lowering humidity without changing temperature can markedly improve comfort. Re: Evapourative cooling in Brisbane 44Dec 13, 2009 10:53 pm Thats why we installed a large system with many air changes per hour, on the really humid days you just crank it up and enjoy the breeze going through your house. In the coming years the price of electricity may go the same way as petrol and you wont be able to afford to run refrigerated aircon. Its just good to know that there is an acceptable alternative. Sounds like you getting the benefits from using it more like a whole of house fan rather than as an evaporative system. Is it a problem if you switched off the water supply. We have only used the units at quarter power so I wouldnt say they are being used as a giant fan. I must say that I really believe these things have made a big difference in lowering the temp.
