Were not insured by our home builder for these things. they said, "its not in our policy" Unfortunately I have tried every insurance company and they tell me nobody will do it. Re: insurance for owner supplied fittings 5Sep 16, 2008 6:18 pm Stu speak to CGU they insured our cabinets as they were owner supplied. Our problem was that 1 of the tradies used our cabinet for a ladder and cracked our laundry top. Using the insurance ended up costing more than what it cost to get the top fixed. I think from memory it was $500 excess on any claim. Re: insurance for owner supplied fittings 7Sep 19, 2008 7:58 am Just an update, I phoned CGU and unfortunately they dont offer this service.
Guess Ive just gotta cop it on the chin if my stuff goes missing. I just gotta say, "Thanks PH for arranging this policy so that it SC%$#* up the customer and puts their property at risk There...that feel s better! Re: insurance for owner supplied fittings 9Sep 19, 2008 9:54 am Hi Stu
Sorry about the situation it's a bit of a hassle. For what it's worth though it is great that you posted about it here because it's one of those things that people don't necessarily think about when signing up with a builder and makes others aware of the situation. I wouldn't have thought about it. It may also be something that you could have included at the beginning of negotiations if you know that you are going to be supplying some of your own items. Surely the builder must be able to cover it in their insurance if they nominate it up front, the time when they are usually more than happy to accommodate your needs, rather than later into the build when requests become a hassle for some builders. With some of the items is it possible to have them put in at handover, basically the point at which you take out house and contents insurance. That way you would be covered. I know this wouldn't be the case for the bath because it needs to be plumbed and put in earlier in the process. Re: insurance for owner supplied fittings 11Sep 23, 2008 8:53 pm Stu, After speaking to DH I have to say I explained the way ours worked with our build in the wrong way.
Built into our builders insurance policy there was a clause that covered owner supplied goods. But it was only from digging hard enough that the builder finally owned up to it being avaiilable to us. But we had to pay the first $500 of anything that needs to be replaced or fixed. Our builders insurance company was CGU. We had a damaged cabinet like I said but it was not worth $500 so it was not worth claiming. I suggest maybe asking to see the policy that your builder has over your property and if you have an insurance broker get them to look over it and see if you can be covered. Sorry for leading you down the garden path and I hope this is more helpful. Hi there, long-time lurker but first time posting.
