Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Mar 06, 2019 11:03 am Hi my house is 7 years old, wooden frame and colourbond steel roof. A few times a day at random times l hear a fairly loud crack or thump noise come from inside the roof area in the same stop far right hand corner of the roof. it sounds a bit like a hammer hitting wood. l read on the internet one cause could be the wood roof frame expanding and contracting due to changes in temperature during the day. l also have split cycle airconditioning could it have something to do with the air duct but the thump noise happens when it is off. Can anyone guess what might be the cause of the noise and if you think l should get someone to check it or is it most likely nothing to worry about. The noise itself doesn't bother me only if it could be a sign of something wrong Re: cracking thumping noise from inside roof 2Mar 06, 2019 2:21 pm Steel and wood do expand and contract at different rates so I would expect some noise at times. I can sort of 'reset' the noise by pressing firmly on the studs. This… 10 11758 Upgrading your windows to soundproof ones, like triple-glazed, can make a significant difference.
