Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Mar 05, 2019 5:46 pm I have a woodworking project, a cabinet, which is for my son and I want to buy a new impact driver for this. As far as I know, Dewalt and Makita have high reputation and are always on top of recommendation. I am wondering between the DEWALT DCF885C1 andMakita XDT042 model. The price of these two is not much different. One of the most favored features is battery capacity of the models, both have the same torque. However, the Hex chuck of Dewalt is 1β and ΒΌβ for Makita model. Which one should I choose? Thanks in advanced. Re: Which one to choose? DEWALT or Makita Impact Driver 2Mar 06, 2019 4:15 pm Both look like non-Australian models, Personally I'd say away from DeWalt they have not kept up with advancement (i.e battery technology) with other brands & have certainly fallen out of favour with tradies. Most tradesman I see use Makita gear which I'd go for between the two brands, but have a look at Hikoki (formerly Hitachi) and Milwaukee as well. Re: Which one to choose? DEWALT or Makita Impact Driver 3Mar 06, 2019 4:32 pm Shoot me down, but as a an "Ozito Hero" I'd have to say that you can't really go past the brand for that lovely balance between utility and cost. And would I be using an impact driver in cabinetry work.....mmmmmmmmmmm. Re: Which one to choose? DEWALT or Makita Impact Driver 4Mar 09, 2019 8:14 am I don't know what other tools you have or what other projects you are looking at doing but most tradies like me use all of one brand so you can swap batteries between tools. FWIW I've used Makita tools since '75 and have nothing but praise for them. Stewie Re: Which one to choose? DEWALT or Makita Impact Driver 5Mar 09, 2019 10:14 am If it's only for cabinet work I'd go for the 12 volt option. I'm a carpenter who has my own cabinet making business. For all my cabinet making work I use 12 volt. It actually has plenty of power and is lighter and smaller which is a great advantage for repetitive work. For the construction side of the business I use 18 volt for the extra power to drive very big tek screws and concrete fixings. For most home handy people a good quality (not ozito) 12 volt will handle anything you want to throw at it. I'm a Milwaukee user the guy who works with me is a Makita user. Both good tools.
