This sounds like a good idea! Re: Supposed to be settling tomorrow...but tenant wont vacate! 33Sep 17, 2008 6:14 pm I'll be watching this thread with interest. Good Luck with trying to get your house. I can see myself having the same problem early next year when I want my unstable tenant out and my family in.... Re: Supposed to be settling tomorrow...but tenant wont vacate! 34Sep 17, 2008 6:49 pm As a long-time ex-renter, the thing that p*ssed me off the most was owners who knew full well that the house was being sold / soon to be put up for sale / would need to be vacated, but left it until the last possible moment to let me know.
Did they fear they might lose a precious week or two's rent because I'd move out beforehand ? Better to stuff up someone's life than to lose a few dollars eh ? Never mind that it gave me only a few weeks to find a place and move, when I could have been assessing the market earlier. They choose the last possible legal moment to inform me, and yet always wanted me to go beyond my legal requirements by allowing extra viewings (no rent reduction of course) short notice, access by various trades, multiple viewings etc etc etc. There always seemed to be the attitude that renters were there as "lucky guests" who should show due appreciation to their feudal masters. Of course this is not even close to the unspeakably VILE and BASTARD act of putting the place up for rent and then immediately putting it on the market for sale, thereby subjecting the new tenants to months of intrusions and complete uncertainty. This is utterly despicable behaviour and will have to be paid for in the afterlife. This is NOT ( repeat: NOT ) referring to anyone in this thread. It's just that the topic reminded me of the "bad old days", and the misery of being treated like a second class citizen because I was "a renter". Do the hard jobs first. I totally agree cabinfever...I'm a landlord with a UK property, a renter here and am now purchasing here...so I've been on all sides of it. We are selling our UK property but have done all that we can to make it a smooth process for the current renter and we gave them a couple of months notice before it went on the market - and have now reduced their rent by 50 pounds per month (about $110) to ease their financial burden and to say thanks for putting up with the upset. Re: Supposed to be settling tomorrow...but tenant wont vacate! 37Sep 17, 2008 7:31 pm Very generous !
But it's funny that my brother, who owns several houses, just seems to have one lousy tenant after another: demanding, dirty, never satisfied etc. I could hardly believe the things he did for his tenants. Meanwhile, as I was renting I just seemed to have one shifty landlord after another. Do the hard jobs first. Roof started leaking from the upstairs bathroom in June...... finally sent someone in August..... to cut a hole in the roof downstairs..... aparrently the tiles need to be fixed and the skirting replaced.... still waiting.... with a hole in my roof... This I'm sure isn't the landlord but the agent...... but I'm sick of ringing them. On the flipside.... rented years ago and when renewed the lease was told that they would sell at the end of the lease.... plenty of time. They couldn't do enough for me actually. I really feel for you tygwn, the crappy thing is there's always someone on one side that'll bend the legislation as far as they can.... and there'll always be crappy agents to screw it up even when the tennant and landlord are reasonable. She had her house on the market to sell at the same time trying to buy ….luckily a vacated home. IF her house didn’t sell and they got the other one would have meant 2 mortgages for them and really stretching their budget. BUT…..by no means was she prepared to put renters in her home if they had to, she knows only full well what could happen. Luckily for her she signed contracts on both sales in one day and get’s to move to a vacant home! Good luck, I wish you all the best.
