We are planning to demolish early April and it is approaching mid February. I like to be prepared and apply for required permits. Is it too early to arrange for quotes and book a demolition crew for April? Or should I start preparation process in March?

I would definitely be starting. You may even be cutting it fine. The whole process took us months. Most of the demolishers we spoke to wouldn't book in the job until electricity and gas were removed (which took a month), and then couldn't start until 4-6 weeks after that, and then the demolition took a few weeks by the time the various teams had been though (asbestos, timber strippers etc etc)

It's never too early (unless of course you have people still living in there!) There is no advantage to having an empty house sitting around compared to an empty plot of land.
As brokenstick says, you need to abolish electricity and gas and cap water/ sewer. You need to get several quotes from demolishers, and they may take several days to even come out to look at it. The one you go with may not have any availability for the job for several weeks. You'll also need to arrange asset protection permit at the council, and arrange some temporary fencing.
It will definitely take more than a month to get all that done.

Apologies if this is a bit long winded - but gives you a good idea on timing and process. We are in bayside Melbourne and our house just got demolished - the excavator comes off site tomorrow.
August 2018 - Got a range of demo quotes to knock down our two storey brick dwelling (partial stump, partial concrete slab), taking out a few trees (incl a 15m palm tree), brick front fence, shed and a few other things. Prices ranged a fair bit and had to go through and ask lots of questions on what was included and what wasn't included (ie - internal asbestos, sewer capping, temp fencing, stump removal, did the cost include salvaging material or not, etc). This process gave me an idea of what I had to budget for. Quotes were valid for between 30 days to 3 months.
11 Sept 18 - applied for a Tree Removal Permit from Council's Local Laws Department. That was issued on the 27th September (this was required to be provided to the demo company).
Start of Dec 18 - House contract was signed, and got a couple of extra quotes. Decided on a demo company from this second round of quotes and locked them in on the 6th Dec 2018. Was advised that they were booked out at this stage until the end of Jan. I was hopefull of a mid Feb demo start date.
15 Dec 18 - Moved ot of our house and lodged the applications to abolish the Gas and Power services on the 17 Dec 18 (you need to be out of the premises for them to start the abolishment process). Don't abolish the water - the builder needs it.
03 Jan 2019 - Applied for and granted Council Asset Protection Permit from Council.
10 Jan 2019 - Power abolished.
16 Jan 19 - Gas was abolished and demo permit issued (organised by the demo company).
23 Jan 19 - Demo company advised that they would be on site 31 Jan 19.
26 Jan 19 - Purchased second hand temp fencing off Gumtree and installed it (look at this as an option, for me worked out way cheaper than hiring for demo, and then paying for temp fencing in the build contract. I got 25 panels, feet and clamps for dirt cheap - just onsell it after the end of the build).
31 Jan 19 - Asbestos Removed.
7 Feb 19 - Excavator arrives on site.
13 Feb - Site finished being cleared, excavator departs and demolition over.
Hope this helps - my process went relatively smoothly, even accounting for the December/January period. But I'd get on it sooner rather than later if I were you. I'd also get onto undergrounding your power sooner rather than later also, if you havn't done that. I had a smooth process, but you hear of horror stories, with people waiting months.
