Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Dec 21, 2006 8:41 pm We are about to sign and build our new home which is custom build by large builder. We would prefer to have the alfresco area to be part of the house slab (TypeM class). The builder is not s keen and tells us it is best done after build, as paving. We aren't sure which way to go. The alfresco will be polished concrete after hand-over. Minor building damge won't be a concern. Main issue is cracking at join to house. Any opinions or experiences? Rosemary and Neil Treyvaud Melbourne, Australia Alfresco as part of slab 2Dec 22, 2006 8:39 am Hi Rosemary,
I am currently in the process of building with one of the larger companies and our Alfresco area is included as a part of the slab and has a drop down to it. I have no building expertise, so I dont know whether it is better to be attached to the main pad or not. Our other friends that built with a differerent builder 6 months earlier and their's was attached to the main slab as well. Re: Floor slab includes alfresco area? 3Mar 12, 2007 2:36 pm Hi Rosemary
Im currently talking to a Syd builder about the same thing,he is keen for me to get it done after the fact.We are pushing that he forms it as part of the main slab. I know a guy who built with this same builder and attached the alfresco slab to the main slab. He has had no problem and that was 3 years ago. My one would be under the main roof so that is maybe why he is concidering doing it that way. Js Re: Floor slab includes alfresco area? 4Mar 28, 2007 3:13 pm Hi Rosemary,
I am also currently in the process of building my new house and our extended Alfresco (approx 3 sq) area is included as a part of the house slab and has a drop down to it. Actually builder themself offered Alfresco slab in the house slab at no extra cost but they are saying we have to pour finish concrete on top or have decking on it.
