Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Dec 27, 2018 1:30 pm Hi, my second floor is old Hardie plank and very hot in summer. I am looking to replace cladding with 100 mm EPS foam and render. Two renders said to just place foam on top and render while others said old cladding must be removed first. Obviously cheaper to go over top but I am concerned it will be heavy, hard to find frame to secure foam, hard to level, reduce eves and may get water between cladding and foam. Concerned it will crack. Would appreciate thoughts please. If you decide to proceed with EPS, ensure that EPS you are using does not contain any HBCD fire retardants in it, it is cancerogenic and this is why EPS insulation has been banned in Europe and US. Oh no! I would use a can of expandable foam ( there are some that will take render) then cut it back and render over the top 1 4143 There is nothing in the various codes and standards that puts this requirement on the builder to do.
