Considering adding an extension to my 1986 home, we are in a bushfire overlay area
if i build an exetension
does the extension need to meet current bal levels
does the rest of the house need to be brought up to current bal levels
i have heard if extension is more than 50% bigger than current home, then entire home needs to conform to current bal levels but i cannot find this documented anywhere

I would say both styles you have pictured are steel. The lower chord of the first pic would be a massive lump if made using timber considering the size of the rafters. If…
