Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Oct 27, 2019 6:27 pm Hi we are thinking of building a new home on a new land we plan to purchase and knock down existing home. We have never done this before and really not sure how the process all works. We are thinking of going with Metricon but have heard mixed reports about them. What can we do to ensure the process is the quickest and how realistic is the process from start to finish? Re: Building new home 2Oct 31, 2019 12:10 pm If you decide to go with Metricon the process will be quick, it's slip slop slap but the quality of work is not guranteed becasue of this. Depends how custom the home is or if it's an off the shelf floor plan that you decide to use, if it's a stock design then the timelines will be accurate but do allow for some delays. If the build is custom then there are so many variables with drawings it can take awhile. Re: Building new home 4Nov 04, 2019 7:35 pm Realistically? First time builder, it will probably take you 6-8 months of research before you start building, then 6-8 months build time depending on what you want built. Don't rush, look through every display home you can drive to. Remember you are in a position of power right until the minute you sign the contract. Use it to your advantage. Re: Building new home 5Nov 12, 2019 9:44 am My brother-in-law went with the first builder they talked too, and it ended up being one of the most expensive. Go to a display village and talk to each and every builder there - and when you narrow it down to a couple fight them against each other to get the best deal for you and what you want. It is a lot of work, as with each builder you'll need to find a design you like or get them to draw/alter one so you like it, but it'll be worth it. Research is key ! When it comes to reviews, every builder will have good and bad is what we found. I had a chat to people in the area to determine how the builders were, ask the builders at the display if they have reviews from people in the area too. You don't want your build to be a flop, take the time to research. My hubby and I spent a 4 weekends at different display villages before we decided (which doesn't seem long for us but it was enough) Building Grange 22 by Coral Homes in QLD -> https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=97426&p=1860633#p1860633 Re: Building new home 6Nov 12, 2019 10:19 am I am nearly finished my house KDR. I learned a few thing that if I can redo again. First started with display home, volume builder then customize my own plan, then gone for custom builder. And glad that I did this way in term of cost, time frame built and minor changes along the built no problem if needed, but still there are thing could be improved !! It is quite simple and straightforward if you know the way. Let me know or direct message me I can provide detail of process I went through.
