Maybe he is wrong but Could they have been built hollow ?. could the non load bearing posts be built hollow perhaps? l'm worried it could be termites alough l have'ne seen any signs of them l have booked a full termite inspection for tomorrow. l am very nervous of what they might find Re: verandah posts hollow 2Nov 25, 2018 2:42 pm Hi Jimbo, I would be very surprised is posts were built hollow. Given that there is rot on the bottom of the post I am guessing this could be normal wood rot. The trouble is that there should be a fall away from posts to allow water to egress away. If you do have termites, and you think it is related to the post (the hollow sound does not sound good) get a screw driver and try and puncture the post where the rot is. If there are termites this will penetrate the timber.
