This (until now) has been the view out of the side windows of our living area: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Now I enjoy my neighbours but I wanted to be able to open this window and have something pleasant to look at. When we moved in I whacked a sheet of the wooden fence stuff along just to give a sense of privacy. What I decided to do was to build a false wall about 1.8 metres tall that I could make a feature out of. A rendered wall with some feature stackstone and a pot with a plant maybe?? This is the view down the side of the house after I started to build the frame for the wall: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ The frame complete: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ The blueboard going on: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ The blueboard coming back off to put the centre bits of wood in (I forgot those!!) Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ The wall is 5metres long and 1.8 metres high. All up so far this project has cost around $250 so far. The render is free as it was left over from the house Tomorrow I will have a look for some stack stone and perhaps a pot and plant for the front of the unit and finish the rendering...maybe Re: Neighbours be gone.... not the plants ;) 2Sep 11, 2008 6:27 pm Hey Matt, any complaints from the neighbours about the back of your decorative wall which they can see over the top of the dividing fence ? They were out in the yard when I was putting it up and they didnt say anything I would happily rectify any issues they had (If they do) Re: Neighbours be gone.... not the plants ;) 4Sep 11, 2008 6:46 pm Looks great Matt and a great idea. Your DW must love all these little things that you do around the house (just read you other thread re the air con)
Just wondering if you've left the other side as the open frame? Happy at Home Re: Neighbours be gone.... not the plants ;) 5Sep 11, 2008 7:40 pm mattwalker Not so far! Look forward to seeing the finished product, we are also trying to think of a way to block out the neighbours but still keep some light coming in to our nice big north facing windows, this is a great idea.
Unfortunately my hubby is not as handy as you though Matt Re: Neighbours be gone.... not the plants ;) 9Sep 11, 2008 9:18 pm Southies mattwalker Not so far! If you have room for a narrow garden bed or even narrow pots, you might like to do this with a trellis up the board.
