Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Oct 02, 2018 5:53 am Hi guys, my house was broken into. Our house is in Aurora Estate in WOLLERT (Victoria). I was in the process of installing 7 Hikvision IP cameras and they rip them out of the walls and ceilings, they damaged the Ceasarstone kitchen benchtop and stole a $289 garage heavy-duty shelving unit and other random stuff. Luckily, we didn't have the appliances installed, which were supposed to get installed on Friday but they were not installed due to the long weekend here in Victoria. We were going to start moving in today and now we want to delay it until we have site clearing, fences and a cctv + alarm system with back to base monitoring. We don't have internet yet because the builder hasn't installed the opticomm infrastructure yet. We had the handover just one week and a half ago, our builder was boutique homes. I called the police and our insurance company budget direct (luckily we had it insured with a $1500 house and content excess) and they will be coming over tomorrow. After a bit of crying and feeling defeated and in shock we thought that our next steps are in this order: - try to extend our current rental lease by 2-3 weeks (we were supposed to vacate on the 17th October) so we have a bit of extra time. - delay the appliances installation, hot water system and a/c unit. - do some site clearing/levelling in the backyard, put road base around the house (for an artificial turf installation we want to do later) and proceed to install fences as soon as possible. - figure out how much the insurance company will cover from this claim. It's around $3700 without including walls and ceilings fix + Ceasarstone kitchen benchtop patch up/rectification (?), we do have a $1500 excess (if they do cover anything due to us not living yet in our house, we were just moving in). - find out if the builder can fix some of the damages. - the builder was in the process of coming in to rectify data cable connections due to bad termination. Hopefully, they fix this asap, so we can install the IP cameras. - get quotes for fixing walls and ceilings. - install IP cameras and an alarm system with back to base monitoring using a wifi internet connection due to not having opticomm/ADSL yet. - install appliances, hot water system and ac and move in right after that in just one go. Btw, we still don't have a driveway because the builder is trying to fix a water leak. Both of my neighbours from each side of my house are still building. We are still in schock and I don't believe I am thinking straight. My mind is all over the place. Can I please get some advice/guidance? I attached some pictures of the damages. - Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: House broken into 2Oct 02, 2018 7:53 am If the builder is still coming into the house it might be that he is using the 'construciton keys' which could mean every tradie that works for that contractor has keys to your house. Almost a hate crime where-in they have damaged stuff they cannot steal. Regarding Internet - Check your address with Vodafone. They have a 4g enabled NBN modem. They will allow you to use the 4g data (via the modem) for 30 days within which time they will connect nbn. Reckon folk might sensibly be a bit more circumspect with exactly what we post here; particularly in regards to high-value security and data inclusions.
