Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Sep 06, 2018 12:23 am Hi,
Today I just noticed this. The studs that are supporting my garage lintel are not supported by the slab underneath. I guess it was poor slab formwork on that area. Couldn't see it earlier since they have a huge pile of timber off cuts on the area before. Today they finish framing and everything was clean up. Question: What type of fix can I expect for such issue. I guess plugging it with mortar is definitely not an acceptable fix? Thanks Re: Frame Support Question. 2Sep 06, 2018 3:05 am I've seen a similar issue before and in one case it was slab missing from under brickwork and not the frame. But the builder "keyed" the surrounding concrete and used a very high compressive strength concrete and sort of forced it underneath. 25 years later and that fix was still perfectly fine. I have also seen the same type of fix on slab edges (bearing the frame, not the brick) that have broken off (usually due to accidents relating to lack of care with heavy machinery such as excavators). Again, the couple of times I have been aware this has been done and there were never any issues down the track. Re: Frame Support Question. 3Sep 06, 2018 8:29 am This is a frame overhang and requires rectification with the approval of a structural engineer. An accepted rectification is to bolt-in (fix) a steel support to the slab in a way that it supports the overhang part. This is 100% true. You can not hang anything on steel frames. very frustrating 8 5344 4 3718 This certainly doesn't look good. I would be engaging with an independent inspector to have a look at this.
