Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Aug 29, 2018 6:56 pm Hi, Just for understanding. On homeone sometimes you read posters saying their frame is overhang off the slab? But why would it be over hanged , why don't framer just cut the base of the frame to match the slab. The only concern with this is that it will mismatch with the roof frame which would be made in factory. But why not only order the roof frame once the outer floor frames are done? Cheers. The team erecting the frame just want to get the frame erection done as quickly as possible. Cutting back a frame to match a slab that is too small takes extra time. Real craftmanship and pride seems to be long gone! Kind of sad. Framers are supposely skill carpenters. So cutting back frame to match anything is supposely part of their job. Re: Why frames overhang on slab? 4Aug 30, 2018 12:40 pm The frame needs to be built to the size on the plans or everything will be out from there on. Why adjust everything when it's the slab that is incorrect? No one is going to be impressed when they turn up and their rooms have shrunk because the concretors made a mistake and everyone else just followed their lead. We had many slab errors and they were relatively easily fixed. Totally agree that real craftmanship is rare these days. Notice that ground floor frames are done then for a week or 3 nothing happened. It feels like they did the ground floor frame first and then order the 1st floor frame and roof to be pre-made at factory. Or maybe just shortage of tradies.. There is a highset being built next door to us. Ground floor frames done last week and first floor being done now. There is not enough room on the block next door to have the entire frame delivered at once. That sucks! Hope it all works out. Good to move away from steel anyway for all your reasons, but it's also thermally poor. 16 17858 In the end, two pieces of treated timber (20mm thick) were bolted onto the joists and planed when there was too much sticking out. Passed inspection. 13 7800 Thanks Ardo, they are sort of semi concealed. I think it is only a few millimetres. I see if they can adjust the hinges. 4 3797 |
