Try Gumption (You buy it at Woolworths). It removes rust stains from sinks and toasters (I did the toaster yesterday and very happy with how it came up). Just put a little on a soft scourer, rub over and clean off.

Try a non scratch scourer if you are scrubbing it off.
Autosol metal polishes from Bunnings are brilliant. Put some cream on, it does the heavy work then doesn’t need as much scrubbing, so less scratching of stainless steel.
I also find scenneys citrus solvent brilliant.
